This is a basic repaint of the XTB Apollyon into the Microman Gun Robo MC12 Walther P-38 Black Type. So far I've used a combination of spray paints and model paints. The brown is rust colored primer. I'm planing on giving it a coat of Tamaya brown as soon as I can get out to my local hobby shop. He's still very much a work in progress, so he's a little rough around the edges. But let me know if there's anything you'd like to see added to this fig. Thanks for looking! (Latest Updates on Page 4!)
A little more detail on paints used- The black is mostly the cheapest flat black that Home Depot carries. I base almost everything with it. It's touched up with Tamaya flat black, which is an almost perfect match. The blue on his sides, elbows and detail parts, is Testors Dark Blue. I knew that these would be high-rub areas, so I wanted something that would only need one coat and would be reasonably durable. Like I said above the brown is Rust Primer. It's going to get a coat of Tamaya- probably Red-Brown, as soon as I restock.
Looks good in the OG Microchange colors, but he doesn't need his scope/fusion cannon, just a big chrome sword and "space-rifle" if you are going for the fully original equipment homage.
I really like the flat paints you went with here. I'm really interested to see the ALT mode on this one. The red in particular is striking.
Thank you everyone for the kind words! I've had this one on my mind for a while now. I was wondering if XTB had this in mind, but since it looks like they don't, I figured that I'd give it a go. That is true, but I don't have the heart to relieve him of his fusion cannon. Rest assured, he will he getting his sword and space gun!
Some updates. I think the black in the mid-section and the yellow eyes help give him a stronger look. I'm working on the sword and space blaster now. BTW- the flat black paint picks up EVERY speck of dust on the work bench! When I'm done he's getting a coat of clear to keep him crisp looking. I see Black Version as more of the neat and tidy type.
I'm having a hell of a time getting the colors to come through in these pics. In person, the blues are much less purple and the reds are crimson. I'll have to work on my camera settings and lighting.
I know it's frowned upon, but good old Photoshop can adjust those colors in just one click. Or The GIMP if you don't have access to Photoshop...It's Free!!! Looking good though, honestly can't wait for ALT mode.
I actually fussed with it in Photoshop, and it was still giving me trouble. Go figure. I think it will be fine if I just take pictures in sunlight. It's a good one. I remember seeing a few in my art school days. (I had this one since then) Updates soon.
You are totally right, and after I posted I figured you HAD to have something with your skill set...I pull a pic down and tried at work over lunch but it changed nothing. Weird, you got some crazy light going on there.
How about this turkey carver? Sorry about the lack of WIPs. It was done with layered styrene sheet and epoxy putty.
you do some epic work bro...I really love his hands... as it looks like he has brown leather glove to beat the F out of someone...damn cool
Much Thanks! HA! Yeah, I guess he does. I wound never have thought of giving a robot brown hands, but there they are in the Microchange design. I'm actually giving them a subtle wood-grained finish to match the handles. Hopefully it will read on camera. BTW- his brother is going up on eBay tonight.
