I like Spaceships. I know probably few people have any idea what this is from but its a show by the same name as the ship that I really liked many years ago around the time I hit legal drinking age. I found the beat up old toy ship in a box of old figures with no hands or stand. Decided to fix er up. I gave it new grappler arm hands cut from some version of Grimlock and made it a weapon that can serve as a reasonably acceptable version of one of the guns or axes the ship used in the show, depending on how its held. Then I modded some random stand I had to work for it. Lots of added paint work and a full wash to bring out the details.
Outlaw Star! Man, I used to love that series (including the episode not aired in the US). Seeing this makes me want to go back and re-watch the series. I like what you did to the toy. The added paint apps really bring out all the details, and the Cyberverse gun is perfect.
That's pretty cool, man. I like obscure pieces like this. Reminds me of that show Cowboy Bebop I really dug too.
Dude, that's pretty sweet! I loved Outlaw Star back in the day! Jet Black's ship from Cowboy Bebop would be awesome too, yeah.
I used to have the Outlaw Star next to Spike's Swordfish on a shelf years ago. I don't think they ever made the Bebop, though.
Oh that's what that gun is! I just found one that looked like it would work, cut 2 of the pegs off, and painted it. I first saw it on cartoon network but could tell it was censored so I bought the DVD set. Still have it too. When I first saw a commercial for Cowboy bebop, and for the live action show Firefly, all I could think was they were trying to jump on the coattails of Outlaw Star's originality and success. But then both of those shows ended up being bigger hits that people do still remember and talk about to this day. But for the record, the Outlaw star would easily make short work of the Serenity and Swordfish! I love the idea of the utility arms modern space probes and submersibles have evolving into grappler arms for space combat.
Wow,awesome work. I love that anime,so glad I got the series. I still have the Gene and Melfina set with the Ship from Bandai.
Hah that's what this ship came from, though I lost the 2 figures at some point. Ahhh.... back in the days when I'd play counter strike and spray my Gene Starwind logo on the walls in-game.
Feeling suddenly compelled into digging this old girl out, and putting her next to my collection of Trek ships.. now what box is it in?? Anyway awesome job!
LOL,thats awesome then. I remember seeing the super detailed model kit way back when the series first came out, wanted it so bad,but it was super expensive and was afraid of messing it up if I put it together.
Looks awesome! It should - both shows were out in 1998, on Toonami (or was it Adult Swim?). How do you think Joss Whedon got so many ideas for Firefly? Actually, people know Firefly better - they have no idea Whedon borrowed designs from the Bebop ship AND the Outlaw Star to make his signature ship for Firefly. I say "borrowed", but I'm being too polite. He outright plagiarized from the shows. There's a scene in Firefly, for example, where they find a girl in a suitcase. I put up a comparison pic long ago (not sure I still have it), but the pose and layout of the body are exactly the same. Not to go too much on a tangent, but I feel it important to point out the ignored plagiarism of Firefly!!! If Whedon was "borrowing," he wouldn't have used a current show and copied an entire scene like that. Borrowing is when you take a scene from Hamlet and do your own variation - but instead, we end up with Firefly being huge and Outlaw Star/Bebop being relatively unknown. Not cool.
I liked both of those shows..You mean these pics? Edit- You must be wrong. First, the girl is turned the wrong way. And second, her arm is in a different pose....
That's where I put mine right after I took these pics too, hah! Dats what I said. Firefly and Bebop ended up being more popular over time than Outlaw Star. I outright didn't watch Firefly because just seeing the commercial for it offended me with how obviously unoriginal it looked. Outlaw guy in a long red-ish coat with a special gun who gets a unique ship and a weird mysterious black haired girl in a suitcase to spearhead a big adventure with the ragtag outlaw gang they partly gather as the show goes on. Cooooome ooooon noooowww. I ended up pirating Firefly years later and watched it, but still can't say I was real impressed. I honestly think the serenity is the fugliest looking turd of a ship in any sci-fi lead role.
God I loved that show! Wish they'd actually released the ships from that series on a larger scale then they did
I totally forgot about this..I used to watch that..it was a solid show. VERY nice custom dude. Thanks for reminding me!!
Awesome job with that paint job! I loved this show as well as Cowboy Bebop and Trigun. I definitely thought of Firefly as somewhat of an amalgamation of these, but that's one of the reasons I LIKED it so much!
