Post #13 earlier in this thread has a breakdown of what I used. Here it is again, with the answer to your question in bold. You could also use some yellow paint of your choice and a small brush.

I am not nearly as talented, but I was inspired and am doing my best. Still a work in progress.

    My dificulties:
    1) my pencil doesn't even like to apply to the plastic at times, while other times it goes on easily.

I also don't like the way it looks on my figure no matter how much I try to scratch it into the panel lines, it is inconsistant.

I am thinking about uaing the black pen and giving it a hard contrast line look. I understand that they grey pencil is supposed to shade it, but I am not enjoying the effect I see. I like the sharp contrast I got on the knees and shins, as well as the cab.

I applied black to the shoulder yellow area thingys and think I will go full black panel lines from here on.

    2) Living in Peru, we don't have all the same brands or option. I don't love the red I have, but I tollerate it. The dark red on yours is awesome. The light red on mine does fit with the lighter red of the shins and plastic... but that is personal taste. I really like how detailed the cockpit cane out in yours and that was the biggest inspiration.

Thanks for the thread revival! Glad you like my work and thank you for the comments.

That's a great start on your Magnus. I'm not really a professional, so my technique is really just self taught through trial and error/experimentation. I mainly like to enhance my figures with panel lining and minor paint accents (If you are more serious about customizing I would recommend looking into painting tutorials). And I use whatever I have on hand, so feel free to use whatever suits you.

    As far as basic tips:
    - I would recommend washing/lightly scrubbing your figure with warm soapy water to get rid of any mold residue/surface oils on the plastic. This might help you with any paint/marker/pencil adhesion
    - Have something on hand that you can quickly clean up your mistakes with (cotton swab with rubbing alcohol or nail polish remover, wet paper towel, eraser, etc)
    - Always test out anything you use on a small portion of your figure to see if you like the results before proceeding with the rest

Lining with pencil can be tricky and is not for most people. It works better on matte surfaces, and if I recall, the white plastic on Ultra Magnus was a bit waxy/slick. I'm not 100% satisfied with how mine turned out, but I did my best.

Also, my Ultra Magnus is mainly for display, so I don't handle it very much. If you are worried about anything rubbing off I would look into using a matte clear coat to seal your work.

Hope that helps and good luck!

    Thanks for the advice.

I really like the sharp contrast of solid black lines on my figure, and it appears that my 0.05mm pen has already died.

Here is more back story: I found a dealer who had the Takara and the Hasbro version, and sold me both at a disount if I got both. I did a search on google and found this thread by chance, and I was instantly enchanted. It made buying the Hasbro version easy. Those sharp red lines on the legs, silver and gold fusion reactor thing in the back of truck mode, and most importntly was the detailed cockpit. In a word, fantastic.

Edit: Sorry for the upside down images. They show up correctly on my phone but not after uploading them. Strange.

Looks amazing, wish hasbro and takara put this much detail into the figures but still, either way this is awesome

Me too, but the time it takes to do it, in mass production, would be very difficult.

I am thankful that the sculpt itself has the details ready for you to highlight.
