Well, the pivoting base is held to the fuselarge with a short pin, And the center rotor is held by another pin. The latter is a nasty one, because the plastic used to make the rotor And rotor blades is indestrucable And unmeltable :(

Will they have to be painted? Which color plastic will match Vortex the best?

Yes. The matching color will have to wait till actual vortex toy comes out. I'd bet on some airplane model gray spay paint.

Er, I just don't want to paint the rest of vortex along with it to make it look right.

you think it would be possible to add a hole in the second hinge of the replacement rotor assembly? I think it might hold together better and possibly last longer if you had to insert your own pin, i know alot of shapeways sets do this by just using generic paperclip that you need to cut to size as the pin.

hey steam i got a few more ideas that you might like.

1.gatling gun and laser blaster variations of the copter arms, so that way all the coptors have different weapons

2.rodimus heads for dead end and offroad molds, i know he's mainly a car, but i heard the movieverse was a truck, so i'm basing mine off a truck (if a "no" i can still use the prowl head, close enough)

    3. backpack cannons for prowl that are also usable in vehicle mode

I need to ponder the 2nd and 3rd ideas, but I have an answer to your first one!

Shoulder with extended winglet having a peg-on gun base and gatling gun attachment. I didn't put a 5mm peg on the gatling gun, as I feel it looks weird - but I did put a 5mm hole at the bottom of it so if you wish just put in 5mm rod and you're good!

OK got both sets of test prints. There are quite a few of adjustments to be made :(

    - the tail section connection to the body is loose - I suspect the polishing process took too much out. I have to thicken it and err on the tight side.
    - the horizontal tail fin fitment is no good - this is a design issue. However recognizing many may not want to have it anyway (as it does look BIG over the bot's head), I have released another model WITHOUT the fin (and landing gears)
    - The rotor is good but there's a lot of stepping/layering. I'll have to try polished print and adjust orientation see if that improves.

I like the back tail and rotor; love the work you're doing and can't wait to have the final product!
Have you considered designing a chestplate? I know it's block the combiner joint, but it would be cool nonetheless!
