Fakebusker's Shapeways Store Minibot "Quantus" (Shapeways) Update August 25th, 2015 Quantus is a laconic mechanic. A girl of few words, she'd rather spend her time puttering around her workshop fixing up various gadgets. These gadgets are mostly unsafe, a few with planet destroying capabilities, and some make pretty good coffee. Not that she'll tell anyone which is which, of course. She's always losing her precious wrench. Quantus stands 7.5cm tall and she is extremely poseable with balljointed shoulders, elbows, hips, knees and feet. Her head is on a peg swivel and comes with an adjustable visor. She can also hold/mount 3mm peg compatible accessories including her trusty wrench. *** More pictures to come soon once I get my camera working. Meanwhile enjoy these instagrams. *** Assembly Quantus is a small figure but her assembly can be quite challenging. Please pay attention to the instructions in order to put her together correctly and I won't be replacing broken parts. Also, as luck may have it you might receive a print with loose joints. Coat the ball joints and sockets with superglue or nail polish to increase tightness. She comes in a jiggling mess of sprues and body parts. Use an x-acto blade and a pair of snips to carefully remove all the sprue connectors. Look twice, cut once. Be careful not to cut away anything that resembles a body part. Again, I will not be replacing damaged pieces. Install the neck socket piece into her chest cavity from the back. You will need to flex the sides of her torso outwards to fit the piece in. Strong Flexible material is quite sturdy, but be careful not to over flex. Attach her lower torso to her chest piece by inserting it from the back. They are both joined together by a mushroom swivel peg. You should feel a slight 'click' when the lower torso settles into position. It should rotate snugly without falling out. Once the lower torso is in, cap over it with her butt-flap piece. You will need to flex the sides of the chest piece outwards again to accommodate. The butt-flap has two flexible pegs which should go into the peg holes as shown. Push the torso sides back inwards to secure the butt-flap. It should rotate up and down smoothly once secured. Assemble her limbs. Pay attention to the differences between the left and right pieces. Assemble her head. The neck peg has an arrow indicator that should point front/up. The visor attaches to the two indents on the sides of her temples. You are nearly there! Attach all her limbs and head. Attach her wings/turbines to the ball joint sockets on her back. Yup, you should check out the review Peaugh has done on a few of them... These little figures are awesome, if my budget wasnt so tight right now, I would have all of them...
Shapeways recomends Acrylics, but this will be my first time painting as well. The customs threads might have advice for both of us.
If you can spray paint the parts, you may be able to hand paint the parts a little easier. Although the paint may still be absorbed like a sponge at spots.
Shapeways problems This kit looks AMAZING, so of course I ordered it from your shapeways store, only to find nearly half the parts were missing! So I told them and they sent me a replacement, which was missing the exact same parts! Has anyone else who ordered your kits had problems with them being incomplete upon arrival? For the record the parts missing are the 6 pieces that make the legs, the lower torso, the cockpit window, and the clip/peg that holds the head together.
Hi WA, I want to apologise for any inconvenience caused and I want to let you know I'll help you as best as I'm able. I've looked at the file and apparently the missing parts were connected to the rest by one sprue which I guess is a weak point and broke multiple times. I've fixed the sprue issue for now. Thank you for bringing this up to my attention. I'm willing to send over the missing parts to you as a token of my appreciation and to make up for the mess. Can you pm me your delivery address and contact number for UPS delivery?
wow, Thank you so much! I never expected to get such a fast reply, you got back to me faster than the shapeways customer support!
After ordering the kit I gave it a proper paint job to capture that Nautica look as best I could. I also made a couple videos of it, first a build: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=37A9Mu5-r7o&feature=youtu.be and a review of the completed figure itself: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMhhP286yHs&feature=youtu.be
Thank so much for your videos and comments! Your Quantus looks really nice painted up and I'm glad you had a good time with it!
D'aaawwwww, she's adorable! I don't read the comics myself but I love it! And the fact she can transform is incredible! You really are a hugely talented individual. What software are you using? I'm trying to get good at 3D modelling but all I have is Blender and I'm not very good at it.
