This figure started with a birthday gift from my wife. She gave me a model kit for a Viking ship. While I like ship models, I was more in the mood to use it to make a custom. I really wanted to make something I hadn't seen before on here, but not necessarily an original character. Then I remembered Alana. Alana is a character from the G1 episode "Sea Change." Here is her bio from the TFwiki page: Alana is a leader among her people, the Tlalakans of Tlalak, encouraging them to rebel against Deceptitran, a Decepticon creation intended to squeeze energon out of her enslaved people. A resistance movement had taken shape on the planet through the use of a pool called the Well of Transformation that dissolved the body of whoever entered, leaving only the spirit/soul which then formed a new body of whatever sort their heart desired. The people of the planet used it to change into merpeople so that they could secretly use the waterways for their rebellion. Alana alternately chose to become a robot that transformed into a boat. She also develops a "special" relationship with Seaspray, who shares her affinity for the water. The core figure is a Star Wars crossover Arc-170 Starfighter/Clone Pilot. (Not the ideal figure for a fembot, but it was in my junk pile, and I'm watching my spending.) I took off the wings, shortened the shoulder pieces, and got an new head from Shapeways. (Tecrom Designs Ariel Homage Cyrene head). I used the hull of the model kit as a shell, and made a couple of tubes to fit the prow. The bow and stern become hand weapons, and can combine to form a staff. Her shoulder cannons show she's learned a thing or two from the seekers (and also explain why a gondola shoots lasers. Seriously. Watch the episode.) She's a bit of a shellformer with some upper deck kibble in boat mode, but I'm comfortable with that. Thanks for looking. Oh, Seaspray, you salty dog!
Awesome...I love me some fembot customs...with Takara Tomy in the heavy-retool game with fembots lately...it'd be nice if they did a heavy-retool of Cybertron Thunderblast as Alana... ...
Thanks. I noticed that trend, too. I know, right? The more obscure the character, the greater the click bait, at least to me. Thank you. That was a great deal of the appeal in doing this project. Thanks, all, for the encouraging words!
If you want to get technical, she isn't really a Transformer....but even if her temporary form is, Chromia, Firestar, Moonracer, Lancer, Greenlight and Elita One appeared in an episode of the cartoon a few weeks before Alana.
Nothing at all planned right now as work has just started back up. However, you never know when inspiration will strike... I was just thinking the same thing. All the same, thank you for the compliment.
That's very creative! Alana looks like she's off on her very own Viking funeral in alt mode. The prow and stern figureheads becoming handheld weapons is a cool touch!
Wow. A robot form Alana. That's a hell of a task to take on, I appreciate the ambition, and it came out pretty cool too!
