Hello, Here are some minor paint apps and tweaks to the Protectobots. I didn't think it was enough to warrant a thread for each one, so I'll just post them here as I complete them. This is after my Silverbolt/Overlord debacle, so I'm keeping the paint apps simple and easy. Up first: Groove. I painted a few areas to make his vehicle mode more cohesive, then just some minor details, and painted all the black flat. Added a bit of gold to his head. Blades: Repainted his face, added some red and black, very minor panel lining, and made his eyes green as a tribute to G.I.Joe Lifeline. Hot Spot: Take a look and let me know what you think.
Thanks all, and thanks for indulging me. Blades added. Repainted his face, added some red and black, very minor panel lining, and made his eyes green as a tribute to G.I.Joe Lifeline.
The subtle detailing on Groove is nice, but that Blades looks fantastic! It has that 'premium' quality to it.
Thanks. I wanted to do some more on Blades, particularly his shoulders. I wanted them white and red too. But that gray plastic just won't take paint. I tried all my hobby paints, and even krylon fusion. It came off like egg on a Teflon frying pan.
Wow they both look really good. Nice work Cant wait to see how the rest turn out I was thinking of painting Blades shoulders too, bummer it wont take.
Hot Spot added. I painted his head black, and added some small paint details. I didn't go overboard with the details because it ends up emphasizing parts I didn't want to.
Perfect. The Hasbro Hotspot needed a black head to be more toy accurate and match the all red chest. The Takara version has the 'toon chest, so it makes more sense that it has the baby blue head than the Hasbro version.
I am a complete novice when it comes to customizing/painting figures. I am very impressed with the black Hot Spot head (always thought it should be black). What kind of paint and paint brushes did you use? Any special techniques? Truly great work. Would love some advice for a newbie.
Yeah I thought about it...just I wanted it white so dye was not an option. Thanks though! Thank you. Check the tutorial section, or PM me. Thanks guys. I think Hot Spot needed that black head. I can't stop looking at him now. More to come!
