"Whadda YOO lookin' at, slobberpuss!!!" Okay folks, this newly-commissioned movie-scale "Wheelie" project is officially a GO! Got everything I need right now to get started, left-leg construction has already begun.....now I'm just waitin' on the truck-body itself for the paneling, and running-lights for his hips. Both rollbar-lights & eyes will light up in robot-mode. I'll probly be making TWO of these guys, one for the client and one for myself to possibly sell later. Wheelie's estimated-height will be around 20"-24" tall, and articulated and poseable. Back into that weird part of my mind again, but I've been there and done that, so this is nothin' new. HUGE thanks also to my friend Jack Chan over at Facebook for the TREMENDOUS help getting the parts-list together for this little guy, it was tricky getting everything....but that was the EASY-part, now on to the GOOD stuff, enjoy the W.I.P.!
Did you finish the steel-mill Titan? It's unusual to see sb working on a custom before they finish their previous one. Maybe I just missed a post, tho. Never mind!
Seriously? Welcome to the customs-world of multitasking! Technically I have (4) projects going on right now, only Titan and Wheelie are taking top-priority though. Just because I started this one, doesn't mean I'm not makin' progress on Titan, I'm still painting on that guy in between. Honestly, the projects that help pay the bills get the w.i.p.-time & top priority right now, therefore Wheelie currently gets top-priority. Just the way it is, this is kind-of a part-time job for me. Titan-update coming soon though.
Update soon! Got my Ford truck-body in, been cutting out panels today for his legs. Haha nah, that's not in the budget. Can always add that later though. Me neither, I'm pretty excited & charged-up about this one, I'm enjoying it so far. Yep, good stuff on the way soon! I'm doing my best to make it rank up there. It's been tough though, harder than Frenzy. The main reference-pic I have is the concept-art pic which was actually drastically different than the final movie-version. I'm having to resort to vague movie-stills and YouTube videos to try to catch different angles and figure out what the hell is what on this little guy! He moves so fast in the movie, it's hard to tell what's going on & what his body looks like. I'm going to have to resort to creative-improv like I did with Frenzy and do the best I can with what I can't see. It's nice to have that freedom, but I'd rather it be as accurate as possible. Doesn't always work out that way though. Oh it's goin somewhere fast, only got 3 months to bang it out! Yep, get ready. Yep, they're combined with my original Frenzy-thread on page#6, post #54 here: http://www.tfw2005.com/boards/radic...pic-heavy-6.html?highlight=movie+scale+frenzy
Wheelie's left leg pretty much done! (for the exception of paint.) Decided to implement a flat-black inner-kickstand as a "heel" to enable Wheelie to stand on his own without a prop. All the details included here are pretty much everything that I could barely make out in all the vague reference-pics & video-clips that I have. Turns out, just to add to the chaos, the 2 best concept-art reference-pics I found were still very different in many ways from the actual, final Wheelie-render in the movie! On the other hand, that gives me a little creative-freedom and the chance to improvise what works best for that particular application, and do it my way.
Both legs nearly done! Just a few details (except for paint) & I'm moving on to the hip-joints. Here you can see the little "kickstand-heels" I gave Wheelie so he can stand on his own. Bottom-pic is the majority of the parts that go into just one leg. Lots more work to do.
Wheelie say hump legs today! I don't know why, but I've always had a soft spot for Wheelie. This looks great so far!
Update! Finally settled on a hip-bracket design that I was happy with, now the legs are connected and I can move onward and upward with the fun-stuff. The legs were a real bitch to build and stabilize, but the worse part is over as far as I'm concerned. Now I will begin to connect his rollbar hip-lights and rear scratch-built muffler/tailpipe-assembly. After I figure out what will mount to that black center-coupling (differential), I'll enclose it on both sides. In a couple of weeks, this little bot should be about half-done. (Both of 'em)
Yep, one is a commission for a client, and the other is a spare that's unspoken-for just yet. I will happily keep it for myself if I don't find a buyer for that one meanwhile. A few people asked about commissioning more Frenzys after that one was done, so I figured I'd go ahead and just do 2 of these at the same time and have a spare just in case.
Ok ok ok I'll be the smart alek who says it. But will it transform? Bwahahahaha This is sick bro! I mean epic.
