Welp, I've been teasing this enough in my thread for CW Prime, and since I now have a first run of test prints, I reckon it's high time I showed off CW Megatron's add-ons!

Even if they're not quite working yet... :p

So, what upgrades will he have, once I've tweaked everything and got it fully working (and it's not far off, right now)?

    1/ IDW-esque head
    2/ IDW-esque chestplate
3/ Leg armour to thicken up the shins
4/ Add-on feet to make him taller (alas, though, I don't have MP-10 to see how he measures up)
5/ Cannon Beefer-Upper (or as I may have called it when talking to friends, The Cannon Uncircumcision Kit :p  )

The head and chest (as well the cannon tip) are designed to be permanent add-ons, and thus to stay on during transformation, although with the chest being a different shape, there's an extra step in the transformation (you can't really see it in the pic, but the chest is made of two hinged parts, and it splits open when going to alt mode, so the head can fit inside).

As for the feet and leg armour, they detach, but there is a place for them in alt mode, with the leg armour forming extra guns on the turret, and the feet stowing away securely underneath the alt mode (where they do not impede the action of the tracks).

Oh, and that chest? Yeah, it has moulded swirls on it. ;)

There's still a few tweaks needed before these are finished and ready to go, namely:

1/ Fix the way the feet clip on, since I ballsed up the measurements like a tool.
2/ Modify the clip that fastens the chest to the torso, as it's not working yet.
3/ Modify the clip that holds the two chest halves together, as I built it up too much, and it needed cutting before the chest could be constructed.
4/ Make the head a tiny smidgeon smaller.
5/ Make the leg armour sit further forward on the legs.

I shall keep this thread updated with the latest news as and when it happens (f'r'instance, I will be doing an Armada version of the chest, once I've got the engineering finalised), and as always, comments and criticism are welcomed!

Yes. Yes. This is what he needed! I don't know much about the new head but everything else looks Fanfreakintastic! Keep up the work.

I think the head size is just fine.

    Thanks very much. :D

Hmm, maybe it's just my eyes, then. I have to admit that, looking at the pics again now I've put the studio (i.e cardboard box) away, it does look about right.

Plus, it certainly does fit on there, with both the stock chest and my modified one, so not changing the size would save me a fair amount of work, especially if it doesn't actually need to be changed and I'm being hyper-critical again.

    ETA:
Not to mention meaning that I don't have to pay for another test print, which is always a nice thing! :lol

Holy crap, man. If I could get this set in the proper colors, I'd be all over it. As it is, I can't paint for crap. :(

Aye, that's one of the downsides of doing add-ons for Megatron: it's impossible to get the same exact finish, since he's lathered in silver paint.

Do I detect a subtle movie reference? :p

I'll assume that means you approve. :p

I'm definitely doing an Armada chest, and I'd like to do a G2 chest, but that one will take a wee bit more figuring out; this chest is nearly touching the floor underneath the alt mode, so I need to figure out how the hell I'm going to fit an entire tank nose under there.

But yes, if I can figure out make it work (even if it means completely changing the engineering), I'd like to do him a G2 chest.

    ETA:
Oh, and one that I'd definitely like to get done is his MTMTE chest, 'cos I really like that design.

These look great so far, especially the feet. If Shapeways can have these colored gray or a similar shade of silver, it'll be perfect

I'll be perfectly honest... I'm leaning away from the idea of completely replacing the cannon, for two reasons:

1/ It wouldn't be much wider than the current cannon is, as that'd make it hard to fit the cannon in the turret for alt mode without some serious engineering.

2/ It would be longer than 10cm, and Hasbro's SuperFanArt thingy (which I'd be submitting it to) won't accept add-on weapons longer than 10cm.

Aye, 'tis a shame they don't offer grey as a colour option, yet, although in truth, it'd still need painting to get that same sheen (metallic plastic looks gorgeous, but it is, alas, not a good match for the silver on Megs).

Heh, this is one of the projects I've been dying to show off. :D

And shockingly, I still haven't received a cheque from Hasbro to thank me for the extra figures I'm supposed to be making people buy. :p

I'm definitely getting a set of these. Might even double dip on the cannon beefer-upper.

I trust this will ensure a Galvatron upgrade kit *Slips you a £5 Note* ;)

i do have to compliment you on what you've done with the feet, it really slightly irks be when Transformers cannot naturally stand with their feet (and it bugs me even more when they have their feets molded to be slanted eugh)

and I really like the Armada Megatron chest I saw on Facebook!

I agree with your initial assessment : head needing to be a bit smaller.and or maybe a bit more narrow top of head.
