Combiner Wars G1 Megatron is probably the best Megatron mold up to now, however it's not tall enough to be the rival of MP 10.




So I came up with this DIY project, with it, I don't think I need to buy any of the 3rd-party add-on kits, it only costs me 2 dollars for the Junk parts, and the tank mode won't have those unnecessary parts.

Improvements:
1) Taller Megatron, which can look down at MP10



2) perfect tank mode, no change, the add-on kit is hide beneath the tank.



3) more G1-style Megatron, the gun barrel is at his back, and fusion cannon is more like G1 without the tank turret.

 

The first improvement is on the tank turret. I moved it to became the gun barrel on Megatron's back. After the change, Megatron looks more like G1-style, and his fusion cannon is better looking too.



I pulled the tank turret with a little strength, and broke one of the small pin , then tank turret can be detached from fusion cannon. Don't worry, it's a small scar, showed in the picture below. After I repainted the tank turret to silver, it won't even be noticed.


Then drill 2 small holes in the red circles of the below picture. Then I attached it with a small metal pole, now the tank turret can be attached as gun barrel anytime.






In tank mode, the small metal pole won't be an issue at all with this spot.




The gun barrel can be inserted back as tank turret, very stable.

 

Now come to the feet add-on to make Megatron taller.

I use a junker Darkmount's legs. (Skullgrin's leg can be used too, since it's just a repaint).



Cut small pieces from Lego parts, the thin ones show in the blow picture will do. The parts inside red circles were the ones that I prepared to fit small hole under Megatron's feet.



Used the strongest glue I have, glued the parts with Darkmount's thighs' back hole. Then it can be plug anytime.



Darkmount's thighs provide the ankle's articulation.

Repaint these leg parts to silver, then it can fit with the small holes under Megatron's feet.

 

Now come to the best part, these add-on feet can transform and hide under tank.

Now just fit them under tank. Use the panel from Darkmount's legs， fit inside the red rectangle part of tank, then push and finish the tank transformation.




It's perfect fix, and even made tank mode looks better than before.

Finally, two more pictures, my recent DIY projects.

 

This is amazing work! This blows away all the other customizations in the feedback thread for Combiner Wars Megatron. Heck, it somewhat blows away the 3rd party add on kits which is a amazing feat in itself.

Tank mode: The silver gun barrel with a black center hub actually looks like it came out the retail box that way for tank mode!

Robot mode: Your foot mod is genius. I think a lot of darkmounts and skullgrins may get sacrificed soon. Good call on the positioning for pin.

What paint did you use? It seems to match the silver on Megs very well!

 

Thank you for the praise. I didn't know there are other customizations for CW megatron. (I didn't check the review section).
I use the standard metalic siliver paint which I found in Walmart, around $5.

yes, it was lifted a little bit, because Darkmount's top parts are not flat. Cut the extrac part and a little file can fix it, which I didn't want to do since I want to keep the extra details.
