Wonderful job I did the same thing for my Slingshot, a repaint from Fireflight and the head of Alpha Bravo.. What type of paint did you use or are you planning on using? When I painted mine I tried using a spray enamel and it came out too yellow, so then I did a little sanding then used white Rust-Oleum spray paint that works with plastics, first time I ever used it and it came out with a lot of white particles all over.. I ended up sanding it off just a little, its not perfect.. But I want to buy another Fire flight and give it another go.. Anxious to see what magic you did..
Thanks man Thank you Thanks bro, be great to see your Slingshot, post it up After the usual prep work i used tamiya acrylic primer, comes in a rattle can and then i hand painted with Tamiya XF-2 which is a flat white, by hand painting you don't get the orange peel effect, i paint all my figures by hand and use spray paint for GI.Joe stuff etc ...just add a touch of Tamiya acrylic lacquer to protect the paint when its dried If you are not sure about hand painting you will find some good videos on you tube, watch the guys that paint model planes etc, build it up slowly with thin coats and watch for runs, if you do it right you wont see any brush strokes
I tried with 2 different types of white brush paint.. One was just too thin, while the other was more gel like and looks like white out when it dried.. I really need to start using Primer, I get to anxious on a project and take to many shortcuts that make the work look not so good. Masked the large areas and started out with Testors White Spray Enamel, light coats.. When it dried it looked yellowish.. So I tried RUST-OLEUM 2X Cover which says it bonds well to plastics.. It came out similarly to the Primer I used on another project.. The paint left WAY to many dust like particles that I had to lightly sand off.. At that point I just used my brush and put a light coat of a thin White Acrylic Paint.. It did make it look better.. I don't have enough light right now to take a shot that would do it justice.. Ill take a pic in the morning when the light comes from the window.. I have dozens of projects I haven't posted here.. Ill put it up in a separate Radicons post.. and link it here.. Edit: I'm so going to touch up my Silverbolt to what you did with yours, it looks so much better than the stock look.. I'm also thinking if I can get a hold of another Fireflight and redo the whole figure by disassembling and cleaning and properly priming and painting..
I think the problem is the paint you are using, get some Tamiya Acrylic, you won't go wrong with that and will get a good finish ....have a look at my customs here, everything is painted with Tamiya Acrylic Gi Joe Customs Photos by cossie@ste | Photobucket
I never liked Takara's white Superion hands. But the guns and knuckle guards being black really distorts the size of the hands on the Hasbro version. This is the perfect balance.
I use tamiya clear spray lacquer (rattle can) i don't have any problems with paint coming off, infact my sons play with some of my customs and the paint holds up fine ...you really cant go wrong with Tamiya paints Yeah, i hate the oversized look of these combiner hands so tried to break it up and try improve the look of them
yeah I already looked them up and picked out the colors I need and wrote the numbers of them down. lol fixing to go pick some up one day this week. now I am gonna get some clear too. thanks.
I'm wondering about the tools and adhesive you used on the rifle. That seems like a nearly necessary mod, cause that thing is way too long.
lol that's the same way I did mine. I think I did it the same day I got silverbolt because I couldn't stand it being that long.
Did you prep the piece before painting? I knew I forgot something after not painting for this long. Mine's still okay. I used Krylon.
I'm just nervous about it not holding well enough. I think my last experience with super glue may be clouding my judgement, though. I'm trying to think of something I used it for that worked just fine.
