When I was a kid I had only a handful transformers. One of them was Sandstorm. I recall was quite jealous that while I had gotten Sandstorm for Christmas my brother had gotten a much cooler Headmaster. I was always bothered by Sandstorm's lack of a cockpit, rather that it was just a sticker. And that orange made him feel like a preschool toy. I lost him until recently when my mother found him in a box of old toys. Even though I found him unexciting then I found that seeing him again conjured a deep fondness and nostalgia. He was actually pretty cool. Had a great cartoon episode. The one other nice thing about him over some of the other Triple changers was that his buggy mode was close to scale to the other Autobot cars. I decided to give him a makeover to be more like the toy I wanted and more like the cartoon. I cut out the windows and put in a piece of clear plastic for the front window. For the side windows I used a grill from a random G.I.Joe piece (unsure from what) I gave him a detachable roll bar from an AWE Striker? No some other toy, sure it was G.I.Joe too. May make it able to collapse some day. I changed the back of the buggy to look more like the cartoon spoiler. I moved the pin on the rear chopper prop and moved that piece to the edge of the stabilizer fin. For the spoiler/prop I used a spare shortened larger rotor. Someday I would like to figure out how to make the chopper rotor blades extend or longer to be a more realistic length. Thanks for looking! -nonmetal
That's cool. I don't remember Sandstorm from the cartoons in G1. And I'm pretty sure I've seen them all.
Hahahaha. Don't you just love animation errors. Oh wait you mean he isn't supposed to have a windshield? Just checked and no windshield in that episode. Though why if he isolated from any earth encounters would he ever turn into a buggy or helicopter. Oh those crazy cartoons.
Season 3. Fight or Flee. Great episode in G1 canon. They discover a planet full of refugee Autobots that rebuilt a version of Cybertron to escape the war.
