With the new NECA Alien Queen on the market, I finally got around to doing something that I've always wanted to do- add more articulation to my McFarlane Toys Alien Queen and give her a better base. I was inspired by the NECA figure when it came to the base. Her new base is just a square of plywood that I sanded and painted. The grill texture is a needlepoint mat that I got at teh craft store. Adding a post under the chest solved one of the McF Queen's biggest issues- instability. The support under her center of gravity really solves that. No more shelf-diving for her.
The articulation was achieved by cutting her up and inserting Revoltech joints that I bought in bulk on eBay. I drilled holes that were the right size so that they can be held in with friction. I bought a pack of 50 random Revoltech, which worked out because I got some in every size (even ones that I didn't know about), and I ended up using the tiniest ones in the Queen's smaller arms.

Oh! I have her.. wonder if I should try the same..? Although her legs NEED some help!

 

I had the same thought, but I'm not sure that she'd be able to support her own weight if the legs had joints in them. I feel ya though. The leg position on her is a mess.

 

Dont you have her held up by a base? Or do her legs still play a vital standing feature?

How big is this Queen? I picked up the Revoltech Queen a few years ago and like it. It's not terribly large, but it is articulated out the wazoo.

Clay- She's quite big- easily to scale with 7" figures. Although, the NECA one is a bit larger, and she's supposed to be scaled to her own 7" line. Either way, she's a handfull. Much much larger than the Revoltech.
Primus_Feather- She's only leaning on the post against her chest, so most of her weight is still being carried by her legs. I'm afraid that if I cut them up, she'll become too unstable. There's also the fact that the sculpt on her lower legs doesn't have those lovely shell parts (like her arms) that I can cut in between, and I think it would end up looking too choppy.
