Following on from Breakdown, who is awaiting his Countach shell to finish off, Dragstrip is approaching a finished state. Only one picture for now but he's about 80% there. Got his red striping detail and shoulder wheels to sort and I'll up pics in all modes.


Funnily enough I've had some negative feedback about the chest engine but when full pics are up later I think it works quite well

well ofcrs full pics will look better for the engine but that doesnt fix the fact that closeup remains ehm not perfect, ik know for sure u can do way better and smooth out the transition between the (lego block?) and the chest... anyway i new camera would also help

Well considering I strive for as close to cartoon on a shelf as is possible and the cartoon looks like this:



I'm actually pretty happy with how it looks. And that is what matters  

Also you are preaching to the choir about a camera but there is little point in getting one when I'm coming to the end of my adventure in the fandom. Third parties are stepping up MP releases which means less for me to make for myself so I'll be hanging up my customising boots.

When the yellow is completely dry I'll add the red racing stripes and get the engine block placed correctly (it'll be a bit lower on the chest and peg into the forearm on arm mode) and get arm mode although I am still waiting for a pair of front wheels to arrive so it isn't gonna be 100% complete.

 

If I may suggest, I would go with a Lego plate (the thin piece) instead of a brick so it doesn't stick out quite so much but you would still retain the cartoon accuracy you're going for. That's funny how they drew his engine block to look exactly like a Lego piece sticking out of his chest. I never noticed that before now.

Anyway, looking good! Can't wait to see the whole group when they're done.

 

His face makes me feel sympathetic. He looks sad/suprised.

I know it's mostly accurate, but all I see is a lego block sticking out of his chest. I see all this detail in the other parts, but my eyes are always drawn back to the huge simplistic lego block and that ruins the whole thing. It's overbearing and doesn't match the aesthetic at all.

It would help a ton if it were way thinner (like the mentioned plate) and chromed, and/or you could add eight 1x1x1 round caps, and/or you could drill out each nub to make them look more like the intakes they are supposed to represent.

It's something I'm gonna have a look at in the morning to go on the thinner plate I posted further up. I've also decided to give him some darker yellow highlights in the torso but that will be in the morning now. Pics to follow of that and arm mode. No point doing car yet until he has a full complement of wheels.

 

That's WAY better already. Now it just needs to "sink" into the chest.

 

Suggestion : maybe use CW Optimus Prime's weapons for engine parts, because they're specifically shaped as engine parts. Just cut off the gun barrels.

Perhaps some gunmetal/silver detail here and there ?

I'm wanting it as close to Sunbow colour wise as I can so no silver detailing. Dark yellow instead. Tomorrow.

I like the simplistic engine, it's staying with a few additions

How about this engine block?



I've also added some slight darker yellow areas to break up the block yellow. Two parts are drying that will finish off arm mode (which make up the backpack/cockpit area) and I'm still waiting for the set of wheels to 100% finish off alt mode. I've just realised I need to paint under the shoulder wheels too so next update will have all three modes complete. Then onto the next one which incidentally.....

This also arrived today.....



 

 

I liked the lego brick better.......  

I didn't mind the kreo piece, but seriously this worksfine mate.
