Cool. Only thing that bugs me though is that giant bap from the Shapeways chest to where the crotch piece lies. You can see the bot mode legs quite a bit now that they're extended.

Y'know I said, in the last post, that Hellscream just gave me an idea?

Well you just said what the new idea's about... ;)

    Menasor is looking good. :D

Oh, and because you can never have too many uses out of the CW Prime mold...

Looking rather Prime-y there Soundwave, time to add him to the list? After Thunderclash, the greatest Autobot ever, of course. :lol

Oh I have something in mind for Mr 'Wave, don't you worry. Once I get done with Prime and Menasor, I really need to crack on with that idea. ;)

    EDIT:
Right, I reckon I've figured out a relatively simple way to fix what CodeXCDM mentioned above, but... there's a catch: the only way to do it and make it actually look good is to sacrifice the smokestacks on his shoulders, and have the windvane form shoulder armour without those smokestacks. That same windvane can then form a cover for the torso, and by binning the smoke stacks off it, it will be slim enough to fit inside the back of the sleeper cab in combined mode, and fasten on to the pegs where the Blackjack mould would normally peg on.

So, question: are people cool with losing the smoke stacks, if it makes the combined mode look better? 'Cos that's the way I'm heading, now. He'll still end up with higher shoulders, but he'll be more IDW than G1. I'm fine with that, so hopefully everyone else is. :p

Awesome! glad to hear you might do some feet and hands, another possible idea, if your open to it, covers for the arielbot arms in leg mode, maybe could possibly be a part of the foot comes up high enough to hide the hands?

That's a brilliant idea, but there's a tiny problem: I'm only actually getting Silverbolt (to convert into someone else. I'm not planning on getting the other Aerialbots. :p

Saving up on the off-chance we get Computron and Abominus, y'see... ;)

Heh, no worries. You don't ask, you don't get, right? :)

The project I have in mind for Silverbolt is going to be a real labour of love, 'cos I plan to convert him into a character I've wanted a figure of for about, oooooh, 27 years. :D

That's pretty awesome, it really is amazing what can be done with figures today between 3rd party upgrades and people like yourself that have the skill to make your own upgrades, I'm sure your silverbolt will turn out at least as good as your prime has

i wish silverbolt's arms did something more than just be on the sides, and i mean, really, unlike the deluxe aerialbots which at least have the arms flush against their bodies, silverbolts just rest under the wings, why not make them look like pilons, thrusters/ comercial jet thrusters, pontoons(for water landing) or turbines, whatever but something that make them look less than arms -_-
really, the plane mode is ok the robot mode is great as well as the torso mode, but those arms really ruin what could be a great figure(they dont seem as annoying on the upcoming cyclonus repaint) but they sure still are there, and maybe you can make the other request somebody did for cyclonus to add shoulderpads, to be that

That soundwave looks suprisingly amazing. I would be floored if there was a kit to turn some of the combiner limbs into his tape bots. Soundwave combining with his tape bots seems like a natural extension of his character.

see.. an idea like that would be awesome! much better than cyclonus combining with other decepticons.

it'd be cool if they gave us a predaking.. i'm sure there'd be a ravage repaint. laserbeak and buzzsaw could be any of the jets, and frenzy and rumble could be any of the cars.

that's such a great idea man.

Thanks for the vote of confidence. :D

Aye, I'm going to look into that as soon as I get Silverbolt (which likely won't be before my birthday, but still, he'll be coming).

I did some playing around on the model after I wrote that, and I think I'm going to have to make an executive decision: unless I can figure out another way to do it, the only way I can get the windvane to work properly in both roles is to lose the smokestacks. So (again, unless I can figure out another way to do it, but I'll point out that I am actively trying to find another way to make it work), he'll have stack-less shoulders.

Now that would be brilliant. :D

If it means I get a new Ravage, I'm all for it. :)

If you take a look at Combiner Wars Rook, you will spot many similarities to Soundwaves new form (that one in the picture you showed)

Not only on the bot mode with the way all of the wheels are positioned, but the at mode is the same type of vehicle. I think Rook will eventually be repainted into Soundwave

I haven't been back on tfw for ages - then when I come back I see this! As someone who's dipping the toe in 3D printing - this is mind blowingly well done!

Rook'd work, aye, although I have someone else in mind for Soundave. :p

    Thanks very much! :D

I'm refusing to give up on this, 'cos adding the stacks is proving to be a challenge, and I don't like losing. :p

Also, a quick update: have ye seen that pic in the news forum of the white Optimus Maximus figure, that pretty much shows that it is based on the Prime mould, and not on Motormaster?

Basically, that means that assuming I can afford it, Thunderclash's chest will be going on the next prototyping run, alongside the IDW heads, the Menasor add-ons, and hopefully the shoulder armour. :D

You know, I'm beginning to think I made a terrible mistake in following this thread. :lol

You took a figure I didn't particularly care for, made it look awesome, are currently making its recolors/remolds look awesome, and here I am going from "I think I'm going to pass on this guy" to "I'm getting 4 or 5 of these guy now plus all the beautiful upgrades". Oh well. Looking forward to Soundwave!

I agree, Rook is pretty spot on for "The comic formerly known as RID" Soundwave's current form and I'd love it if Hasbro does end up releasing that as a figure.

While I think it'll make for a good deluxe Soundwave, he'll be pretty small compared to Leader Megs, Leader Thundercracker (and eventual seeker repaints), and John's upgraded Prime. Soundwave's beefy-ness in that particular scene I feel lends itself well for using CW Prime as a base, and the upgrades John has in store (alt mode inaccuracies aside). And hey, if I'm going to have a Soundwave read Thundercracker's brillant screenplays, I'd want them to be of similar sizes. :)

If it makes the Bot and combined mode look all the more better, then I'll be down with it. No problem with more IDW. :lol

The Thunderclash chest won't require parts forming right? Definitely looking forward to seeing how that turns out. Oh and if possible (time and resources allowing of course), would you consider designing a IDW styled chest and head for Thunderclash as well?
