Bob is printed in full color sandstone through Shapeways. I’m still waiting on the official SuperFanArt approval, but since they’ve stated there won’t be any real progress on non-MLP stuff until after the new year, he’s up for sale now that he’s tested. I'm considering a further up-scaled version, but I'm not sure anyone will actually pay for something like that. The colors really pop in person, which is one thing I've been perpetually suprised at with Shapeways' color prints. Check it out here.
Thanks guys! Prowl: He's a statuette, so no transforming. Deliciouspeter: It's hard to describe, really. It is a solid, inflexible material that isn't as fragile as the name makes it sound. The color prints into the material beautifully, and the surface is rough but not much more than the Strong and Flexible plastics. one thing that I didn't expect and that really turned me around on the material in general is the weight. The figures have heft and feel very solid. I'd estimate they're half-again-to-double as heavy as an equivalent figure made of pure PVC plastic.
This is gorgeous, Trentulas! Question: Is the Sandstone material difficult to cut/modify? I think if I got one of these Bobs I'd have difficulties not adding some ball/swivel joints to it.
You probably wouldn't want to try that with sandstone...but it appears to be available in solid color plastics...
Fantastic job and I'm super tempted but since he's got no poseablity and I need an excuse to save money I'll have to pass. But for a moment there I was super tempted to buy two because all my Thundercrackers need a Buster of some sort and an insecticon would work very well. But yeah you did a really good job with this man!
If anyone wants one of these, or anything on Shapeways, they have a 10% off on your next order coupon code: THANKYOU10 Bob, and the rest of my stuff is here.
Thanks for posting two smaller versions recently. There is no full color version of the 2.5 inch or the 35mm, but there is a full color 1.75 inch version.
It really does, or, if you're less keen on superglue, spray gloss-coat gets the same effect. I'm prepping to do some before/after photography along those lines.
Would you consider making a variation on this Bob--i.e. a snap-model kit (like with your Pretender shells) with articulation at the big five? This looks gorgeous in Sandstone, but it's just too far out of my price range--I'd love to paint one myself if it meant he could emote/pose.
