I'm a little nervous about posting this, because I'm not sure how it'll turn out or if I'll even finish it. This is my first custom that's not just a touch-up or repaint. This has been a concept I've wanted to try for a few months now, and even if mine doesn't turn out well, hopefully someone will get inspired to try and make a better one. Anyway, here's what I got done last night. *this chest piece broke and no longer exists. This is the new chest, as of 12/23Basically, I wanted a voyager Megatron to go with my Lost Light. From the first time I played with Blitzwing, I thought he'd make a good Megs. I started by sculpting a new mouth for Construct-bots Megatron's head, because let's be honest, that thing was atrocious. Then I took all of Blitzy's jet pieces off, because I didn't think he needed that mode, and the chest piece I had in mind would eliminate his ability to transform into a jet anyway. Having the tank treads on the back of the legs was important to me, so I turned the legs around and decided to use Construct-bots Shockwave's leg armor to add the upward swoop of Meg's shin armor. I know the sculpting isn't great, but it's just a figure for me, so please go easy on me. That in mind, I would like suggestions and input. Here is the picture I've been using as a reference: Things to do: make the back gun off-center: Completed 12/21/14 Page 2 extend shin armor down to ankles: Completed 12/23/14 Page 3 paint! Started on 12/21/14 ended on 12/24/14 Page 3 add chest swirls somehow re-make chest piece: Completed 12/22/14 I'll be attaching images of the progress as I complete each item
great work i would try and ad more detail to his chest also you should be very cearfull to sand all the anomalies out of the puty becaous the slitest imperfection( eaven if invisible wen unpainted) will pop out like a saw thumb
You can do it! I can see where this is going, and since it doesn't transform, then by all means, you can make the robot mode work. Just be patient and take your time For future purposes you may want to throw in card/styrene for broad, flat pieces (such as Megatron's chest) instead of relying on sculpting material, as sculpting will generally always lead to deficiencies, while card/sytrene will generally be flat most of the time.
Thanks for all the encouragement! Thanks for the input! I planned on sanding all the sculpted parts before I paint. As far as the chest detail goes, anything I can't sculpt in, I'll try my best to paint on. He still transforms to tank mode, I just scrapped the jet mode. I also appreciated your opinion with the card/styrene, I'll keep that in mind if I need to make more flat panels. I'll definitely take my time, I have one other custom that I'm working on, and when I get stuck on that one, I work on this guy. Hopefully I can get a bit more done tonight, but no promises - I've been in a mood to work on the other figure today.
Haha, yeah. I don't have access to it, but I think I'm going to try and use layers of card if I get the ambition tonight.
I managed to get the gun to be off-center last night. I drilled out one of the existing screw holes to hold a 5mm peg, pushed out the pin holding the cannon in place, and made a 5mm peg to connect the hole in the cannon to the one I drilled out. This is how it sits now: Because the cannon now sits so far forward in tank mode, there was a huge open spot, kind of like how jet mode used to be. To fix this, I drilled another hole in the armature that used to hold the cannon, and pegged a blocky Mech-Tech weapon in there. Here's a peek at what tank mode could look like. Rear-mounted cannon? Truster exhaust? Who knows?
That looks brilliant. Any idea which Mechtech weapon it is? I'm really impressed with how this is shaping up to the point where I think I'll grab a Doubledealer off of Amazon with a gift voucher I've been given.
That's exactly what I was hoping to achieve - getting somebody to execute this concept better than I can. The gun is from the best Bumblebee toy ever: MURDERBEE. I believe a few different movie Bees had the same gun, but I got mine from Cyberfire Bumblebee, which is a figure everybody should have
Well, I don't know about doing it better considering I've never sculpted before, but I'm certainly willing to try it I... Don't actually have Murderbee, he fell foul of my 'Oh my god! No more movie Bumblebees!' rule But now of course I have to get him. Sigh.
This was my first real attempt, and it literally shattered in my hands, haha. Oh well - learning experiences and such. The arms and tank parts should be all painted tonight, btw!
Hey love how this is coming out. Lots of potential here. Without the plane parts, how empty looking is the tank? Also, notice you are in Plattsburg. My wife is from Morrisonville. Small world.
