    to me they look great
the only nit pick about slag is that i would like the dino mode to look as bulky as the bot mode, wich fore me works great

I was going for a squat sorta lumbering bruiser, glad that came across :)  The more I look at it the more I think it's a case of detailing.. he seems to stand out against the Swoop and Grimlock that I've done.

I do appreciate the input however, it's always good to get other peoples opinions or perspective, often helps get the gears in my head going, so to speak :)

Funnily enough, it was playing through the Grimlock missions on FoC and then seeing AoE a while back that got me on to these guys.. Grimlock in particular I wanted to have a similar sense of weight and death-bringing mass that he has in both the game and the film.

I think in all honesty I could do both Grimlock and Swoop several times and they'd all vary wildly, it was REALLY difficult pegging down what details I wanted to use and where. Swoop for example I have a couple tubs of parts set aside until he's done but there are at least 5 or 6 collections of parts just for his engines alone..

    Thanks Stormvapor! :)

    I wouldn't call that nitpicking :)

My main hang ups are the details at the moment, primarily the legs and crest around the head. I'm debating a couple different things to do at the moment that would definitely add some mass to the Beast Mode, namely big ol' G1 Dinobot round shoulders.. something on the legs, they're still way too Animated for my liking..

Just hope it doesn't add too much mass to the Robot Mode, that's my only concern.

However, as anyone should in any given trade (not just customizing plastic robit mens) I welcome input from others, so long as it's constructive of course :p  so thanks hellbred!

Cheers man :)  Always good feels when you get praise from your peers!

Considering what "Slag" means here in the UK, I initially guffawed when I read this, but thanks!

    ~

AND NOW FOR SOMETHING COMPLETELY DIFFERENT!

A friend I used to work with commissioned me to repaint a Robot Replicas Bumblebee for her. It's been an interesting custom though, as some of the detail is actually pretty sharp, but then some, like the chains under the torso, are a bit mushy or fade into the surrounding sculpt, making it a pain in the ass to paint.

In respect of paint, I tried to go for a worn in, dirty look (at the commissioners request) using a combination of washes, highlighting and drybrushing.

Here's a BUNCH of (slightly blurry) WIP pics (sorry!), intend to have the left arm finished later today.

Stop making me want to get a movie bumblebee!!!!

Phenomenal job, considering just how much I hate movie BB, believe me when I say I think it looks good, it has to overcome my personal bias towards that character, previously only completely overcome by the likes of 3A and other stupid expensive collectors pieces

Though, despite my dislike of movie BB I own 3 versions of him, cause the need for a plastic crack fix is greater than my hatred when BB had been clogging the shelves for months on end, F'ing Hasbro.....

Well, anyway, that looks pretty damn amazing, even more so considering the materials slight flexibility, I want to say it was a PVC based material, but I can't remember for sure, and I don't have any robot replicas anymore

Looking forward to seeing the finished product!

    Bwahahahaha :ev:

...though in all seriousness, being sort-of compared to 3A and "other stupid expensive collectors pieces" is pretty flattering man :| ...thanks!

Also yes.. it's very much like vinyl.. which DID take paint ok, until I put the gloss coat on.. which took literally forever and a day to fully cure :\

Here's a quick-crap-pic of him finished and assembled though :3

Proper pics with a proper grown ups camera to come next week!

And now for something completely different :3

Here's a selection of a few random things I've made recently (only one of them a robit to!)

The robot was based very loosely of a doodle an old work colleague had done and I thought it was kinda cute.

He was made using a Pellermodel for the body (look them up, they're REALLY handy for tiny tiny tiny ball joints) and any odds and ends I could lay my hands on that would work well for it.. all from my various spare parts bins.

Some bits like the key in his back and the bow tie he ended up with were carved by hand from sheet styrene.. and lemme tell you, having hands as big as mine and working on something so damn small, you get the WORST cramp very quickly D:

Paint was a simple drybrushing affair with a few bits picked out in copper and blue for contrast.

    ~

I've been wanting recently to improve my own skills with sculpting and carving, in particular with Kneadatite/Green Stuff. So that's one of a few reasons for this next batch..

First up was a little practice piece that I ended up giving to a friend, as it was based on her cat.

The sculpting isn't as nice as I'd have liked, but not bad for a first-ish effort?

    ~

Lastly, I made these two for my other half (who's the one with red hair) and her closest friend as a wee silly xmas present for each of them, as they live so far away from one another, I have the one of the missus to her friend and vice versa.

Even made little display stands for them as you can see above.. cos I'm a nice guy like that :3

    Robots again soon I promise!!

Ha, I love what you did with that photo frame (the pellermodel) I love those little things!

BB is looking excellent! and your other little baubles are cute, if a bit to much so for my general sensibilities lol, hope to see some more detailed sculpting from you in the future, if you are going to start sculpting, you should also look into making silicone moulds, so that you can replicate sculpts to be used in future projects, without having to put in much work

    Looking forward to more pics!

I LOVE Pellermodels.. they're so handy for TINY ball joints that would be otherwise difficult to source or nigh impossible to make.. damn cheap to!

I've considered making molds in the past for some things, haven't really had the need yet though :)

    ~

Sorry for the lack of content lately.. work and other stuff going on has taken up way more time than I'd like it to :\

Anyway, here's a bunch of customs I've been working on for a while now that'll eventually end up on eBay (unless someone calls dibs beforehand of course).

    ~

    MOVIE KILLERBEE

Whilst I appreciate the names been used before by other customizers it seemed fitting.

Still a WIP paintwise but it's NOT Shattered Glass.. :p  Think of it more as a Decepticon that's watched Mad Max a few too many times, if such a thing is even possible..

Plan on giving it a really heavily layered weathering eventually, really go nuts with grime and oil stains, general filth and rust etc.

    ~

    G2 PCC TALON

I had a spare PCC Skyhammer sans head in my junkers box for aaages and it was only when me and a friend got to talking about the old G2 Predator Jets that I realised what I could do with it.

I also had a spare Classics Rodimus head, which seemed about the right size for the body so I set to work.

I sanded/carved this tiny head crest from a slightly bigger square of styrene, then did the same for the 4 bits that would make up the mouthplate.

As heads go, I'm pretty please with this, though I still need to fill the gaps in the sides of the mouthplate, which I only spotted AFTER painting it >:\

....and whilst I'm trying to stay away from flash photography these days, the blue is SO LOUD under bright light :|

    ~

    MOVIE ROAD ROCKET

Some more cramp inducing tiny styrene work here.. Started with a DOTM "Bikeguy" (who's real name I forget but refuse to look up based on a far better naming scheme for the DOTM Scouts).

Very neat mold but that head.. gah.. man that head D:

So I started out with this, using larger shapes then sanded and cut to shape... spoiler alert, this ended up being his mouth plate.

Kinda hit my stride after getting that out of the way, so I ended up taking no other WIP pics until it was built!

For paint I'll be doing a base coat of a very clean bright silver, then a layer of gloss clear red. I have got a "chrome" silver spray paint.. which isn't like, mirror chrome, but very close. On something this small though I didn't think it would work so well (plus the spray is kind of thick/heavy).

    ~

    PCC FLAK

These last two I'm probably most proud of out of the bunch.

First is Flak from the PCC Bombshock mold. Used a similar process to Road Rocket (silver and gloss clear red on top) for the red and yellow on him, only this time I did layered drybrushing before the colour coat, which I think gives it a nice somewhat realistic depth for worn metal.

Also went to town with ink washes and intend to go somewhat weathered with this one.. not as filthy as Killerbee above, but you can see some of it on the legs and the feet starting to take shape.

    ~

    PCC GUZZLE

Lastly is PCC Guzzle, from the Heavytread mold.

Seemed like an obvious repaint but I thought I'd take a stab at it and give it my own spin to boot.

I mixed a custom shade of grey to try and match somewhere between his various comic appearances and the original toy. Thankfully due to how the mold transforms.. I was able to get enough yellow/gold where I wanted it in Robot Mode.. same with the bone white actually (which I will never NOT loathe painting in as it takes several thin coats to get an even coverage.. ugh)

Still plenty left to do on all of them.. but I thought I'd at least TRY and put something new on here rather than leave the threat to languish!

Oooooo, that pimpin purple BB is awesome, you did an excellent job masking all the lego/CCBS parts, I didn't immediately recognize them as such, which almost never happens to me, it also doesn't hurt that I am currently ravenously awaiting the release of Mad Max: Fury Road :D

PCC stuff looks good, you do up any of the drones yet?
