So I had Takara 1st edition grimlock with bad sun fading on one side. I bought the 2014 Hasbro one with but it felt cheap...... I switched out the dino arms, clear grey plastic kneck and chest and all the joints on the Hasbro one with the takara..... vastly improving the Hasbro version. I was left with the takara one looking pretty beat up and having poor joints. I decided to have a little fun and checked my parts bin for supplies..... first thing to grab my attention was a construct bots megatron. I made a mock up to see if it would work and surprisingly it did. still a work in progress as it needs another coat but heres some progress pics I put a construct bots faction logo in the chest section. http://i1292.photobucket.com/albums/b561/Craftystransformers/masterpiecemegatron010_zpse8d2fd5e.jpg the barrel is made from four construct bots thrusters glued together I may do the entire arm joint red, but for now I just did the front edge. the construct bots head is a place holder till I get a G2 or maybe a shapeways head.......... hahaha construct bots purple mace Still lots of painting of parts needed, but its about 50%done. ONE SHALL STAND........... ONE SHALL FALL WHY THROW AWAY YOUR LIFE SO RECKLESSLY PRIME. ILL TEAR YOU APART WITH MY BARE TEETH YESSSSSSS UPDATE nearly done now, a few touch ups and sealing then I'll be happy till a megatron v2 comes out.
If I had purple paint in my supplies that was the way I was going...... its easy to rig up a handle + clip detach part for the dino head.
I saw the title and thumbnail and thought "no way is this going to look good..." I went into it and was pleasantly surprised at how well it works. Do you plan to put the clear neck pieces back on? Because with them off the neck looks way too skinny. Also, I think the hips would look better if they were painted black. My only other critique is the dino head. The Dino mode still looks like Grimlock. I don't know what else could be used though.
I was just eying up a t-rex Dinothunder zord head thinking about modding...... the clear bits on the Hasbro collar cracked when removing them, but it differentiates from grimlock and with the dry brushed chrome I just applied onto the black it looks better. The hips..... yesss, I'm working on them.
Thanks for the kind words guys, just updated the first post. Nearly done now. I took the advice of black hips and also repainted the arm sections red. I shortened the cannon mounting and am happy with the results for now.
