Dude, the legs came out great. I commented 6 years ago how I gave up years ago when I attempted this due to not figuring out the legs, but it looks like you nailed it. Really hope you finish it, your work is too good.

Got both sides cut. You may notice a small piece of plastic missing from the left side. I cut that off prematurely. Turns out I didn’t need to. And that’s why I have a second one coming.

I also think I have the slider and locking mechanism figured out, but I need some styrene tubing to make it work. Time to order some.

This is really awesome! Articulated G1 (and G2) customs are always cool.

But don’t people usually turn broken Optimus

Also, do the arms attach yet?

Not yet. I just started cutting the right arm pieces so I can duplicate what I did for the left arm. I need to come up with some kind of rocker hinge that will move the arms up and lock them in place for robot mode. Due to the elbows being lowered, I need to raise the shoulders up to keep the proportions looking correct.

Glad to see this still getting some love. Really hope one day a third party will finally give us a good update to this design.

An episode in G1 where they killed optimus and built him into an alligator. G1 is the best.

    Episode 19, City of Steel
The Decepticons invade New York and replace the Empire State Building with a new Decepticon Base. Optimus gets captured by falling into a pit in the middle of Central Park. The Constructions rebuild Optimus into a drone shaped like a crocodile named Alligaticon (even though its a croc but whatever). The Autobots find Alligaticon in the sewers which Ratchet thinks is a swamp... Then they rebuild him except for his arm which is the centerpiece of the new Decepticon base (G1 was great). Then the Autobots win and fix everything and leave etc.

Small update: got the right arm attached. I was able to use the MP-10 shoulder joint so now it has upward shoulder movement. I’ve also started cutting the left arm to graft the MP-10 joint into the elbow and I’m hoping to get that arm done over the weekend. It’s slow-going though since I’m trying to remember what I did 5 years ago and I don’t have any spare parts, so messing it up is not an option.

Also, my second G2 Megatron arrived today, and I have styrene tubing on the way, so I’ll be able to finalize the legs soon. I also have a couple other donor figures/parts on the way so I can upgrade some other areas, but I’m not going to reveal what they are just yet.

Great work so far. Really enjoy seeing original figures get some much needed articulation. I've had G2 Megs since release so nice to see it get some love

Another small update: I got the right arm mostly built to match the left. Still need to rebuild the shoulder joint, but I actually want to re-engineer the shoulders entirely so they sit a bit lower on the arms. As they are, they make the arms look a bit lanky with the added length to the bicep/elbow sections. I’m thinking of some kind of rocker hinge to allow the shoulders to swing up for robot mode. The challenge is figuring out how to lock them in place. Speaking of the elbows, I modded the slider on the left arm so it doesn’t pull out as much as it did for MP-10 but just enough to give the elbow clearance. It shortens the arm by about 1/4 inch and improves the proportions a bit. Lastly, I started fitting the hand in the forearm. The idea is to take the forearm piece from MP-10 and make it a slider that extends out for robot mode and back in for tank mode. Unfortunately, MP-10’s hands are too big to fit inside Megatron’s forearms, so I’ve either got to come up with a different plan or look for different hands altogether. I’m open to suggestions regarding that.

EDIT: Here’s a quick mockup pic showing roughly how it will look when everything’s attached.
