#1 | | Consistency is victory. Join Date: May 2003 Posts: 13,000 Location: Wake Forest, NC News Credits: 3 | In the Life of a Radicon Hey guys, I thought it would be cool to start a thread for each of us to post in to let the rest of the Radicons know what's going on our your lives right now. I'd like to encourage each person to take a level of discretion about just how must your reveal and also to simply remind you that we still must adhere to the rules of the forum. As with any thread, know that it's moderated as well as to keep things friendly. Also, feel free to post your comments in response to what others share.
That being said, I'll start off:
Some of you may have noticed that my activity in actually posting in threads has diminished quite a bit recently. This is due to a few reasons. Namely, the primary reason has been I am trying to focus on my semester of graduate school. This is not only another semester, but it's my last semester as a grad student. For those of you who don't know, I've been going to grad school for 4.5 yrs now at Southeastern Theological Baptist Seminary pursing a M.Div in Christian Education. It's been the most difficult pursuit I've had academically, but I've learned a ton. I'm on the downward swing now, but I've been immensely busy with reading, papers, losing the rest of my sanity, etc.
Also, due to graduating soon, we must move out of seminary-owned housing. We're almost finished moving, but it's taken up much of my time packing and moving. It's a bit surreal seeing the recent photos of myself and my collection in a room that's nearly empty now. I'm excited about unpacking and rearranging in my all-new, TF-devoted room though!
I really regret not being able to be as visibly active posting in others' threads, especially since this is one of my favorite things to do. I certainly hope no one takes offense to this, but rest assured I'll be zooming back through some older threads Rest assured I'm around, just in different ways
Also, I've not been able to work on a custom project in some time now. I worked on a head of a project about a month ago, and even that was minimal. The most I've done in the last while in reference to my own work has been the things involved in the interview article (I hope you guys had fun reading it ). I've gotten several WIPs going on, but they're all packed up right now. Some I've posted about, and a few others I've got are surprises
That's about it for now. More news at 11

I am in my graduation year too, and at the moment I'm half way my internship. Sadly this wakes up a lot of my time and money, as I don't get any funding for it.
On a positive side, it's a really fun internship, and I get to do lots of different stuff. The company works on a lot of different flash applications for highschool teachings. And I get to design a lot of different graphical interfaces.
Ans as soon as I finish my internship (in about 45 days workingdays) I'll be busy with my graduation project for at least 4 months..
So yeah.. I'm quite the busy bee at the moment.. follow my 'bashing progress on:

Well where do I start. It's winter time up here in the great white north, which means I'm now on shift work.
I'm a Landscaper in the warm months & a Autobody/Snowplow/Salter driver in the cold months.
Sadly this does not leave me alot of time to bash in the winter as I'm working crazy hours.
Other then that the only other BIG thing going on in my life right now is,
My wife is 5 weeks pregnant with our first child. I'm so excited & scared all at the same time.
It still has not totally sunk in yet that I'm going to be a Dad.
I'm really hoping for a Lil Nemesis Predaqueen. AutobotX23's Rival Click sig for YouTube Channel |

I can trace a years worth of my life in a direct path with TFW2005! I was laid off of my job (I held nearly 5 years) two weeks shy of a severance package! SO, basically being jobless and not a lot in the bank, I did what any self respecting fellow would do, I joined TFW2005 and hit the forums! I had seen TF customs, and of course growing up on the originals, was fascinated by the skill and creativity found here in Radicons! I also had been a life long model builder and sci-fi freak, so why I never put the two together never dawned on me!
I secured gainful employment in January 2008, in the same field I had been previously in (industrial technician/mechanic). But found the job to be lacking. At the same time I had started making some customs, as well as some "earthen art" (slate oil lamps, wall sconces made of slate, etc.) and selling them at local art shows.
I'll wrap up the story with my current activities. I'm happy to say, I now work for myself full time, with the arts and crafts circuit, it keeps me busy but also allows me to have time to devote to customs! I am making the same salary, if not a bit more than I was slaving in a hot as heck industrial plant.
I have quite a few customs getting paint primed now, and should be on the boards in due time! (Sorry it takes me so long, I keep finding ways to improve my figures to better convey my ideas!)
I also just yesterday got contacted by a headhunter who saw my industrial resume floating around from way back in January! They are aggressively seeking me for a very local plant, and so far have offered me a pretty cushy package, with hours that won't interfere with my art business or my customs. I am seriously considering it for about six months or so to pound money in the bank.
The reason for this is I live in Ft. Lauderdale FL, but have a house in St. Augustine I bought 2 1/2 years ago and have yet to live in! I really like the St Augie area, plus it is only about an hour to Georgia, and I love traveling. My sister has a cabin in Elijay Ga. so it would be nice to be able to break away to the mountains on the occasional weekend!
Although I am quite busy, I basically work from home until the weekends, when I set up at art shows. That's why you can catch me here in and out pretty much at all hours of every day!
Working at home has allowed me to get back into some of my other passions as well. I am starting to write and pencil a series of short stories for a graphic novel I hope to produce. I am also helping fellow board member Sideways by writing a short fan fiction to help introduce his group of fan characters!
Overall, life is great! Life should be great, no point in it otherwise! Keep to the simple pleasures and don't try and keep up with the Jones'. Ultimately, you have the God given ability to create your own success and happiness (And a few customs along the way!!)

SQ7, I've sent a pm to you about something special that I'm working on, just get back to me when you get the chance. Well my fellow Radicons I've been jobless for some time now, but I'm hoping to get a vehicle soon then job, but I have this problem with my right eye (keraconus) that puts some strain on my left eye so I'm pretty much homebound sometimes. My personal life...well lets make that private, so that I don't cause a ruckus.
As for now, well I'm trying too hard to multitask a clusterf#$k of things like drawing, some writing, and customizing. So right now I'm taking my time I do have one thing that I'm excited about doing and thats drawing my version of a certain dinobot for the Classics/Universe line..details are top secret at the moment and soon after or later ask someone here to make my creation reality and hopefully it does. I hear ya. It can be difficult to manage time properly when inspiration hits at any moment. I have seen myself get way off track time-wise when one creative outlet spills onto another project's "shift"!
I try to keep some type of schedule going, loosely of course, so I can dedicate the proper amount of time needed to the project on the schedule at the moment. For example, I am writing and drawing short stories for my graphic novel, but since I am still writing out the stories, I give more time to that aspect than the drawings at the moment. I use my "drawing time" for character study, story boarding and such, not so much towards making the final panels. That will come after the majority of the writing is done, then I'll switch priorities. I'll dedicate more time to drawing and inking, and only use my "writing" time for editing and lettering.
All the while I divide my kitbashing time in a similar fashion. I'll spend more time "imagineering" a project at the beginning and less time with tools in hand. That get's reversed as well near the middle, when you are spending more time doing the mods, while considering things like paint and details all the while.I also have to juggle things like utilizing daytime to my advantage, because I work at home from my garage, and need to have the daylight.
Basically I tell you this because it seems we have similar interests and need to divide our days up in a similar way. Definitely allow time for every aspect of your life, creative, professional, spiritual, and personal. When you have no kitbashes going on, you can extend your writing or drawing time to fill the available "shift", and vice versa.
Oh, and every once in a while eat and get some sleep! I eat a lot, and drink Diet Coke like a fiend all day long, but I can get by with about 4-5 hours of sleep a day, then my brain gets too active and I have to get up! |
