For our next gallery update, I wish to draw your attention to these galleries of Soundwave's minions from the Generations Fall of Cybertron line by SydneyY. Sold in two sets of two, Rumble & Ravage and Frenzy & Ratbat, these recreate for a new generation of fans the idea of buying two-packs of "minion" toys for Soundwave.

The four data disks - or "Diskrons" as SydneyY has named them - are all pretty much built around the central gimmick of Soundwave / Soundblaster where they deploy from the chest and spring open on impact. They are kind of addictive as far as gimmicks go (it is rather fun to watch them "pop out"), but the gimmick sacrifices poseability on them. Rumble and Frenzy each only get up-down rotational movement on their arms, while Ravage fares a bit better with rotational movement in all his legs as well as mid-leg joints. Ratbat has no articulation at all.

They are, basically, built for the gimmick, and it is a cool one which I personally find quite endearing. If you don't like gimmicks or like your toys poseable, you might want to wait for the Masterpiece cassettes next year. But if you like fun gimmckery and engineering, and like the idea of a Soundwave with minions that is not going to run you into the triple digits when all is said and done, this might be for you.

Check out the four galleries by opening the links below:

"Diskrons" is odd... I prefer "Diskcons" and "Discbots" for each faction as we will see these repainted and reused over and over and over and over again for Blaster or Twincast.

When are these being released? I haven't seen anything on BBTS.

"Rumble, Frenzy, Ravage, Ratbat: Eject. Operation Interference."

Can't believe no one else thought of this!

Somehow I just hate the design of this Soundwave and his minions in this style. why would they be giant disks? Plus Soundwave is incredible out of scale to the whole rest of the line. I don't like it at all.

Diskrons is drawing on the official name of the Decepticon cassettes in the Japanese continuity, which was "Cassettetrons" (all the Decepticon factions had similar renaming i.e. Stuntrons and Combatrons). Plus it is also a play on the original Japanese faction name, Destrons.

Anyhow, to each their own. I thought it was cool :)

Would you mind sourcing where it states that that is why it is named the way it is?

These all look really cool, except for Ravage. Looking at Ravage just makes me sad.

Ratbat and the Lazerbeak/Buzzsaw look awesome.

I will be buying all of these though, if they are sold as two-packs.

Those just look awful. The pictures shown with them next to G1 counterparts really drive home to me what a fail the new discs are, not a one of them even outdid their old selves. The need to service the disc shape, make them capable of springing open if I understand correctly, being tiny and Hasbro's current trend towards being as cheap as possible make them truly terrible.

Frenzy/Rumble's shoulders look bad, and they look about as articulated as a stick. Lazerbeak/Buzzsaw have giant cylinder-part wings, and Ratbat is the same, except they stuck a bat head on the ridiculously long neck. And Ravage is just a pile of random angular plastic with a small head sticking out the front.

The gimmick alone should have sold me these figures, but those pictures really make me reconsider.

I have Laserbeak and Buzzsaw, along with Soundwave and Soundblaster. The disks are a bit of a fight to get them into either chests of Wave or Blaster, and the back of the figures (Wave/Blaster) pops out so that you can press from behind to eject the disks. I just wish there was some posability with the disks. I wouldn't have minded have both Laserbeak and Buzzsaw at least be able to stand on their legs and look down at least or something. Instead both just lay flat on the ground on their belly.

If you are referring to "Diskron" name, there's no source. I was exchanging PMs with a Japanese member about those "data disks" and we kind of settled with "Diskrons", as Sol said, Decepticon cassettes are called Cassetterons in Japan. Nothing official in "Diskrons" :)

So yeah when Autobot Data Disks come out, I'll call them Diskbots. It's only logical (to me)

Yeah Ravage was a bit disappointing. He looks and feels very fiddly. To be honest I wasn't expecting much from those Disks since I wasn't too impressed with Buzzsaw that came with Soundblaster. But different paint apps and head made a world of difference (Ratbat) and I find Rumble and Frenzy adorable! Onto the "Gotta Catch 'em ALL" game, I am.

My son wanted to see how many Disks can be fit inside the chest, and while 3 disks can be stored, the third one didn't pop out :redface2:  It's a simple and fun gimmick though I hope little kids won't break the disks.

I'm more worried about Soundwave/blaster breaking since the back is just that one piece of plastic, heh

    Thank you!

I thought I was in the Twilight Zone for a minute. There's nothing about these things that makes me wanna buy them.

The Generation figures released this year overall get a C-

FOC must stand for "F***ing Over Collectors" because those Happy Meal Throwbacks aren't even worthy of being fish tank ornaments.

Come'on Hasbro, you've gotta do better seriously!

So are Soundwave/Soundblaster and all these minions already released in the states?
