I like everything except the new bumblebee. I think the car should have a tad more yellow...

Well technically re-branding something means keeping it the same and changing its name not the other way round...

    AND

Hound used to be a Jeep.

I'm not arguing for or against the change, I'm just saying if the truck is Hound, well then it is Hound in the Movieverse regardless of what he may have been in any other version of Transformers. Because unlike comic book heroes etc. this started off as a toy line and has been redeveloped and refreshed over and over into new individual universes where some characters may resemble those from past iterations in look or function or character or in some other way (or it just seemed fitting for that character - I mean not all humans called John are the same in every way are they?), rather than carrying on the same continuity for 30 years.

I am a bit in love with the Corvette. I asked my dad if I could have one for Christmas because it would be cheaper than the Bugatti. He wasn't impressed.

Its for real MPL - Michael Bay's site has been confirming and acknowledging a lot of this.

Transformers has been fucked over and treated with contempt for years. It didn't start with Michael Bay and by now this is just accepted modus operandi because every once in a while it produces something people like. There can be no constants, everything has to be in a state of flux as wave after wave of hacks have their way with the material before it gets torn down again for someone else to piss all over it.

Characters in other franchises will get makeovers and modernisations that keep them relevant and in tune with changing times. Such treatment would be far too respectful for the likes of Transformers. No mere facelifts here; flesh has to be ripped from bone. Obviously anyone who disagrees with this process is narrow-mindedly going against the very spirit of 'transformation'.

The point I was trying to make was that many characters exist primarily from other media and as such have a pretty fixed continuity. Transformers has always been primarily a toy line with other media existing as an aside, despite how much it's loved by the fans. At the end of the day it's a brand owned by Hasbro and Takara-Tomy based on the premise of transforming robots, and when they feel a particular line has run its course (as G1 really did) it makes little business sense to launch a new line which is virtually the same apart from a few little tweaks, and keep the supporting media as similar as possible.

I think what keeps the Transformers brand unique, refreshing and exciting is that things do change and can be separated into different universes. Of course everybody's not going to like everything, we don't live in a world where that's generally true, but no-one's asking everybody to. But to say 'hacks' are having their way with it or people are 'pissing all over it' sounds like you're taking it a little personally, when it is, after all, the property of Hasbro and Takara-Tomy and they can develop it however they chose. But whichever characters, lore and media you do enjoy still exist, so please, just enjoy that :)

I appreciate the point you're trying to make, but I take the contrary view. Yours is a point of view shared by many on these boards.

I disagree that Transformers is refreshing and exciting. :lol  The fact that it continues to exist should not be seen as a testament to its quality. I've always thought there was massive potential there, but for the most part it seldom rises above mediocrity. But here and there are sparks and moments of brilliance, and I enjoy it where I can.
