Can I just say that anyone who didn't directly grow up with G1 probably doesn't really give a crap about the name Slingshot. He's never, ever been a 'core' character with any important stories of his own so to the 99% of people who'll see this film, having a character named Slingshot will not ring the 'rape my childhood' bells and just see this as a a new character in the Bayverse movies.

Besides, the name 'Slingshot' is hardly an aerial-themed name compared to Fireflight, Air Raid etc.

At first, I had little to no interest in Movie 4.

But now I'm a tad interested. Was hoping that the blue car would be Blurr, but Drift is fine.

    I'm indifferent about Slingshot though.

"getting over it" is, and will forever be, better than dwelling on and bitching about something you can't change.

Granted while it may not be as aerial-themed as Firefight it is still used to reference the way planes are 'slingshot' off of an aircraft carrier.

I've always considered Slingshot an awesome name, esp. for a sports car

they're cover names, just like how Sideswipe was once called ''Stinger'' during the filming of ROTF. I thought you guys would figure this out by now.

I like how Nelson in his own condescending way confirmed that yes these are the production names for these guys, just as the article said.

I'm fine with updating the series, with changing models of cars because this is 30 years later and because color schemes may have been cheesy or something back then. But "updating" a character to fit today's cars to make it believeable shouldn't mean completely changing the character, should it? No, I never bought a single G1. i stopped collecting after G1 died, and started collecting again for the CHUG line. You have to still be respectful of the roots. Without G1, there would not BE Transformers. So, what I am saying is...WHY? Why make Ironhide black when the same truck would have looked just as good in red and reference the source material better? And it would have made him instantly recognizable. Why have neon green ambulances when i see white ones all around everyday? I just wanted a movie where I could have been all giddy when i see a bot that i loved driving up because I knew who the hell it was before someone addressed them by name..... And now these two...Slingshot and Drift..i'm just saying they could update the alt modes and designs but still leave a lot of what fans of the series would recognize in there. They didnt change the colors on Prime and Bee so radically, right?

While I understand and agree with most of what you are saying, this is Transformers: (the movie) not Transformers G1 : The Live Movie.

Things change. That is just the way it is. Look at all the characters in other series that are NOTHING like their G1 counter parts. The movie-verse is it's own story arc just like armada, RiD, Beastwars, etc.

While I would LOVE and I mean LOVE a G1 live action movie I do not hate the movie-verse for not being G1.

Not to say that the name Slingshot is supposed to be G1 Slingshot, but it is most likely a whole new bot.
Maybe "Slingshot" and Drift are teammates/ field partners and can both "drift". I would deffinitely
call drift driving an act of "slingshoting" around a curve.

Or perhaps its just the working name for SunStreaker. Its another double S name, and hes a flashy Corvette

Wait.... What? have we forgotten about Sideswipe and Sunstreaker from G1? or how about how 60 percent of the Seekers are all the same plane? and then of course there's the twins from the movie-verse. just a few examples of course

Well at least they're using actual Autobot names instead of Dino an Que names.

    Still I'm pretty hyped.

As long as they're LEGIT Tformer names, unlike "Q" and "Dino", then I'm happy.

So we've got a rumor for Hound and Slingshot I'm just going to call him Smokescreen if they make a toy. All I need now is a Prowl.
