It's not the official mint of New Zealand in case any of you were wondering - all legal tender is created for the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, and special commemorative issues for New Zealand legal tender is sold under license by New Zealand Post (New Zealand Post Coins). This particular company produces some legal tender for the government of Niue. Niue itself uses the New Zealand dollar as the legal currency - however those are produced by the Reserve Bank of New Zealand, so these coins would be effectively of use only on Niue (were you to use them). Other than that, no real value apart from the metal used in them.
To be fair, the value of the metal far outweights the face value of the coins anyway. Pretty standard with all precious metal coins.
You looked up how much 2oz of silver is lately? Plus the design costs, die cutting and design costs, cost of running the coining press, costs of pad printing the designs, cost of packaging, care that gets taken to make sure they're not touched by anyone before they're sold? All adds up, I work for a mint with a collector coin division so I'm pretty sure that is the least of the costs factored in.
Silver Coins : Transfomer Silver Coins, Megatron Silver Coin, Optimus Prime Silver Coin | The Perth Mint These movie-verse coins from Australia's Perth Mint were/are half the price (AUD$97.50). And sold out my ass, I can walk into any Australia Post and expect to see one or two.
Something like this will always have value just for the silver alone but one ounce of silver is 36 dollors and these are 238 dollors for 2 1ounce coins your getting a meg and optimus pic on it lol talk about exploting the market
You should check your math. $97.50 for one vs. $279 for two is not "half the price". And how long ago was that price? The cost of silver has gone up significantly the past few years.
Dammit! I read HM Queen Elizabeth II as "Head Masters Queen Elizabeth" not "Her Maj" ...That would have been cool.
$2 coins that cost almost $300? That's insane. They're neat, but I'll stick to my regular $2 coins, thanks. Once again, New Zealand proves how much of a gayass country it is.
The current market value for one ounce of silver is $31.22 .. Thats all those coins are worth no matter what the theme of the coin is. You go and pay that $233.66 then get them in the mail and then go to a coin shop and ask what they will give you for them and it will be $31.22 each and you can keep the boxes they are in because they only want the coins cause they will melt the coins down lol. My brother use to buy all those silver coins from TV ( like the walking liberty coin or silver eagle coin, 9/11 coin, ect ) that were " guaranteed " to go up in value ... Well he fell on some hard times and figure great i have these coins ill sell now.. He didnt even get back what he paid for them because the price he paid was more then the current market value. And he even went to around 7 coin shops and everyone of them told him these types of coins Never go up in value unless its market value. So these Prime and Megs coins would be a total waste of money and should be avoided, they would be a very bad investment..
