I'm pretty sure that the name change is not un-connected with him having a Spotlight. However, if they announce Spotlights for Bluestreak, Bombshell, and/or Shrapnel I'll be proved wrong. Fortunately, I actually LIKE "Trailcutter." I found my Legends Trailbreaker and when I exclaimed in joy I actually SAID "Trailcutter!" I have NEVER done that with Generations "Darkmount" or "Sky Shadow." Honestly I think it's a more distinctive name. And I totally tryst Roberts to solve the discrepancy with wit and brevity.
So Drift managed to stay alive (a little longer)--good. Not looking forward to what happens next in MTMTE. *prays for favorites to survive* Screw it, all of them are my favorites.
I wouldnt be surprised if they explain the name change in the comic-like maybe something happened, so he asked everyone to call him Trailcutter. Also, the primary reason I can think of for changing his name is to give us a toy. If them changing his comics name to Trailcutter is what it takes to get us a Classics Trailbreaker, I'm all for it!
I'd rather they just refer to him as "Hey YOU..." Than Trailcutter Ugh.... how many more name copyrights are we going to have to suffer because of Hasbro. Heck IDW even calls the original Dinobot Triceratops as "Slag" even though his toy name is Snarl now, and Snarls name is ugh.... I forget. MTMTE looks awesome as always.
Well "to cut a trail" mean to run away so the name Trailcutter can be interpreted as a coward. I can already see it "Trailbreaker? More like TrailCUTTER! OLOLOLOLOLO!".
They can use the original names inside the comic, but not on the cover. It's the same reason why Captain Marvel can be called that inside a comic, but is always referred to as Shazam on the cover. It's a legal reality. They're not forcing anything.
THANK YOU. Everyone's frothing at the mouth at Hasbro and blaming them for something that, frankly, is out of their control. Remember when the red cross symbols on Ratchet started being replaced with ECG symbols? That wasn't Hasbro "forcing a change"; the Red Cross is a serious legal entity that enforces that trademark with impunity. It's likely that someone recently got Trailbreaker and is doing the same thing; making sure that anywhere that shows that word either belongs to them or faces the wrath of a lawsuit. Hasbro just doesn't have the legal recourse to stick the term on something as prominent as a comic book cover, so they have to go with the name they'd been using for his latest figures. And the Trailblazers are a basketball team (NBA, to be precise). No WAY Hasbro could use that one.
Does Drift normally have an Autobot symbol on his chest? Just seems to have a grey square onthat cover... Hmmmmmmm...
Rid cover looks exciting yet it doesnt reveal all that much, which is probably a good thing, Mtmte looks interesting, looks like Drift may turn back to deadlock which could be interesting in the near future. As for trailcutter, I barely care about what the characters name is unless it's something like "Traildouche". anyways I think the title is actually a joke, James has said that he had called trailbreaker trailcutter in the annual just for the hell of it so i'm sure this is just James having more fun with the name.
Wow, that's a big fail when it comes to understanding the appeal of obscure characters in the fandom. You and 1984forever should start hanging out. I would think that someone who's been around here as long as you would understand by now that part of the appeal of a long-lasting, expansive list of legacy characters, built around detailed original character profiles, is that every bot out there, no matter how obscure, is somebody's sentimental favourite... and Trailbreaker has certainly paid his dues by now. Respect your elders, kid! I see your man-love for James Roberts is expressing itself in Freudian slips now. zmog
Well Roberts did say on his twitter that we'll see a in-story reason why he went from Trailbreaker to Trailcutter. I guess he does get a name change after all.
IDW has stopped using character faces on the covers of IDW collections. I bet Cyclonus would've fit as the cover for that volume.
Also according to Roberts twitter the season finale "Remain in the light" starts with #16 and ends with #20. Daym a five parter! (on an unrelated note Roberts says that #14 is visualy the best looking MTMTE issue yet. I am trying so hard not to cream my pants from excitemnt right now)
The hook on the cover of Spotlight: Trail-whatever reminds me of Lockdown... Does G1 Lockdown (of Drift miniseries) have a hook as a hand?
Yeah, he does... In fact, now that I look at them back-to-back, both hooks look REALLY similar, especially with how they both kinda have spikey things sticking off the edges. Hmm...
Love what they're doing with MTMTE, RID and Trailbreaker. Not impressed that 4 months from now, Regeneration 1 will be still in the middle of the story that is currently going on.
