Yeah, that wasn't part of the original statement. It was merely about "coming in colours". Some people find it hard to distinguish who is who in the chaotic fights of the movieverse with such strange designs, some people find it hard to distinguish characters in G1 when they all look exactly the same and pile into the shot to do virtually nothing. I wasn't referring to faces, I was referring to general body shape. Like this, where it looks like they all rolled off the assembly line and had someone take their paintbrush and say "Red and white... red ... red and blue... red and white...". But faces could work too, since the vast majority of them seem to be "human face with robo helmet slapped on top" in the same way the movie faces could be described as "human faces made out of a junkyard scrap". But - and this goes back to the personal preference thing - who says that the race of fictional shape-shifting alien robots has to look like they came from the exact same mold? It's a fictional alien race, if their "species" is based around shape-shifting, it makes sense that they don't all share the same look, merely the same "biology". If we actually want to discuss what constitutes a "species" in the Transformers world, we could honestly argue that factions are different "species". Constructicons, Minions, Thetacons, etc., could all be different species, technically, all under the family of "Cybertronian". The evolutionary history of Transformers has rarely been explored, let alone to the point where it identifies who and what falls under what biological category of genus, species, blah blah blah, so who's to say they couldn't be the same species and still have a large variety of designs? But that's just it, now we're discussing the evolutionary status of robot toys. And I don't think either one of us wants to stoop down that low. ^This guy gets it. Agreed. A TFP Sideswipe would probably look more unique to TFP, rather than this. They'd probably replace his swords with guns.
God forbid Hasbro decides to try and give the Sideswipe name more recognizable features than "hood chest transformation". G1 Sideswipe was always a insanely generic design, only reason we remember he even exists is that he had a brother with a cool helmet.
We Remeber it because Pat Lee remembered Sideswipe as being the greatest G1 character ever........ Man Dreamwave still influences this franchise....scary.

the more i look at this... the more i dislike it. it's movie sideswipe with a lambo hood tacked on his chest and shittier legs.
And, why are digitigrade legs immediately called "chicken legs?" I'm not to sure about the cloven hoof look for Sideswipe. But so help me, I would have bought this toy.
Because saying "walking on the toes of one's feet" sounds too geeky and "dinosaur legs" or "wolf legs" actually has cool imagery attached to it. And since (apparently ) digitigrade legs on alien robots is absolutely ridiculous, taboo, silly and should never be done, "chicken legs" brings about a much more pejorative and laugh-worthy image, to coincide with it. Seriously. "Dinosaur legs". Come on, people. Why would you say "chicken legs" when you could say "DINOSAUR legs"?
Neat. Takes the best elements out of various continuities and mixes them up into the character we love and recognize.
