    ;)

The $30 price point was what sold me on it. Otherwise, having Cyb Soundwave as my "stand in" was totally sufficient.

It's not too hard to fix most of the issues. Mine is fairly solid after dissembling and shaving parts down except in player mode - one of the outer leg shells simply will NOT stay fully collapsed, leaving an annoying gap. I've carved away at every single place that rubs that would make it pop open but I cannot figure it out.

Yeah, I'm hoping to have it all done tonight. Mainly, I'm just taking superglue to a bunch of joints. I had to totally install a new ball joint for the head as well. That part is done and the superglue is dry, but just curing. I may have to alter the area the head transforms into, as it seems like a tight fit. We'll see, but hopefully not.

You missed your chance. Some online stores, like Big Bad Toy Store, were having holiday sales. Sonicron was one of the discounted items for sale, originally priced $59.99. You can check other sites too, to compare compare prices, but I would wait for BBTS to have another clearance sale, because chances are, Sonicron might be in stock again for the price reduction.

So, after removing the ball joint for the head and installing a new one, a bottle of superglue, and several hours later of tightening up joints, I'm really happy with it now :)  I didn't have to widen the area the head transforms into like I had originally thought I was going to have to do, so that saves me some work.

A friend asked me my assessment of the figure after I finished, and I would say that this figure isn't for everyone (notably those with next to no experience modifying figures at all), but it's not a "floppy piece of crap" either. The design of the toy is really pretty ingenious, and has some really cool points of interest to it. For those with some basic kitbashing skills, this is a really enjoyable figure.

I think a lot of harsh feedback comes from a somewhat spoiled fandom that thinks "third party" means "unofficial Transformer toy that is the same as a Hasbro product, but just doesn't come from there" when "garage kits" and true third party items are really more like this. The quality of third party items have just increased so much over the last few years, and have become a really nice commodity for the most part.

For $30 or at a reasonably discounted price, this figure is a steal, just not in the same way the BBTS Piranacon set is. :)

It sounds like the same problem I'm having with mine. It's the left leg shell on mine. I can see the two slat and notch parts that are involved which hold the lateral leg shell in place. I've narrowed it down to the front one on the leg being the problem, but I can't for the life of me figure out what I need to shave or add to to get it to work properly. I've sort of given up on it because I don't want to accidentally alter it for the worse. In alt mode there's a noticeable gap when looking at the player mode from the top because that leg shell won't collapse and *hold*. If anyone figures this out, please let us know! I'm looking at the right leg shell to see what's different and why that side is working, and it looks identical to the left.

I was dissappointed with the figure out of the box, but have warmed to him greatly since. I've also had to do work on him. I had to shave pegs on the left arm so the arm would slide into the slot on the torso properly. I also just fixed the looseness in the waist with some superglue. The plastic's pretty durable, and once you fix the qc issues it is a pretty nice figue. For $30 it was worth it, but if you're not comfortable doing some minor mod work, you should definitely pass.

pics, please? with an accompanying list of what you actually did? I was really happy with mine right out of the box. I'm curious if I just got a good one, or if there's things I can do to make it even better.

I'll see what I can do, but I don't my photos would say much. The most work I did was cut off the existing ball joint, and replaced it with one from a Junker RiD X-brawn. There's nothing special about that particular ball joint other than it just happened to fit. If one has a couple of junk bots, I'm sure they'd find a ball joint suitable for the job.

Aside from that, the main offending issues was the hinge that collapse the legs and hips (the gray hinge that sticks out the back) was well as the portion where the waist assembly pulls down on to that hinge collapsed, thus making the hip portion. Additionally, hip portions that swivel (they have the faux cassette buttons on them) were very loose on mine. Superglued. Both shoulder joints were loose. Superglued. The right arm on mine was slightly loose at the swivel joint under the shoulder. Superglued. The C-clps were just a tiny bit loose. Superglued. The panels for the arms and the back panel where the head folds into? Superglued.

I virtually fixed all joints except the lower legs and the feet.

At this point, I just need to clean off a tiny bit of residue, but that's pretty easy as it usually just wipes off with a little water and a Q-tip. Otherwise, my few hours have really turned this into a toy I enjoy a lot.

Sounds like you did a lot of the same stuff I did. Makes a huge difference, the figure really is great once you get around/fix that stuff.

Sounds like everyone who has done work on the figure has done pretty much the exact same work. :)

I've been wondering, what sort of interactivity can sonicron have with some of the Perfect Effect updates to the tapes? Specifically the brid mold, since I know he has 5mm ports in his fists so he can hold Frenzy and Rumble.

got this from bbts for 34. What a piece of crap. So frustrating to transform to alt mode. Could not even get it in to alt mode completely so didn't bother. Nice design and looks nice as display piece but has NO play value at all.

Yeah, I had the same problem with mine trying to change it into the altmode, however I do like his robot mode and to me he is in scale with my current classic collection. I even got the tapes to go along with him and I like these also. I wonder when someone is going to issue a 3rd party Blaster in scale with Sonicron?????
