As for Bloodlustimus Prime, I think he's a bit like G1 Marvel Optimus Prime. In all the comics I've read (the collections of Primal Scream through End of the Road), Prime seems to be afraid to fight because he knows he might lose control. There's something in him that enjoys brutally killing Decepticons, and Marvel Prime is ascared of it. Movie Prime, however, is not ascared of anything. Him eat Decepticon babies if get chance. :ev:

On the subject of Decepticon babies, am I the only one who seems to recall one of the Wreckers walking up in the background holding the upper torso of that guy they killed in the ship, with only an arm and a head attached, followed by him tearing off the head and ripping the arm out with his TEETH? I'm pretty sure my Vangelus-born desire to see someone get eaten by an Autobot didn't make me imagine that.

I won't say it didn't happen. I didn't see it myself, but what I did enjoy is when Roadbuster is going on about not being in the ship, he's got half a limb in his hand, and he's flicking it this way and that as he gesticulates, and it's flopping about on the joint, spraying goop everywhere.

I love how Sentinel twisted the famous Spock quote "The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few" into a justification of genocide. That line sent a chill down my spine.

I noticed this as well. I few contradictions popped up but it is all good.
I know peeps get excited while doing the pod cast and folks get talked over from time to time but it seemed strange when Gogdog got talked over and there was a few seconds of silent treatment... Gog seemed actually upset.
The movie had its flaws but I think it was the best in the series. I also felt the same way you did Gogdog about the megaton scene at the end. A leader class Megatron with a shotgun please.. our model kit would be awesome.

Michael Bay is good at giving us one thing. Eye Candy. I will never argue that point. Sadly, eye candy is enough for the masses. Look at the money this thing is piling up. Now, I'm not saying I didn't enjoy the action in the movie. I certainly did. Even the unbelievable stuff like Shia taking down Starscream. It was completely unbelievable but hella fun to watch. It was all the crap that did nothing to further the story we had to sit through to get to the action that annoyed me. Shia finding a job? Malkovich making an ass of himself? Tuturo once again haming it up for no particular reason? Who cares? None of these things made any difference in the movie. They were filler. Pointless filler. I think I'll enjoy it more once it comes to Blu. Then I can skip the crap and just watch the fights.

The novel's ending was just right. I guess Bay wanted to put an exclamation point at the end of his work, to feel done.
It's Hollywood though, which means bad guys don't die unless they're blown up or something. Megatron will be back somehow, there's too much left of him.

Starscream's death sucked. Why did'nt he just snip the damn wire in his eye instead of dancing around like a dumbass. Did'nt know he was such a pussy when it comes to pain.
He did'nt kill Mirage/Dino like in the novel either. Kind of glad since Dino turned out to be kind of badass.

07 movie recieved a standing applause. At the end of ROTF everyone clapped but did'nt stand.
DOTM audience was DEAD, and this was on opening night. Only a few laughs during film and no applause :(

I really wish some of you (cough Vangelus cough) would give ROTF a second viewing. Skip all the people shit, the battles are top notch.
The forest battle, Ravage infiltrating, Devastator, the final short fight makes it worth it.

Anybody else feel that this movie wasn't just pro-war, as all of the other movies have been, but also anti-peace?

It seems like Optimus is given multiple opportunities to compromise, broker a peace, and take prisoners rather than killing them off. But the new Bayverse Transformers show nothing but total contempt for anyone who would solve a problem with words rather than an axe to the skull. I realize that Michael Bay most likely feels this way, with his creepy military fetish, but I think it was a poor choice to make Optimus feel this way.

Like I said before, I expected a pro-war message for this movie, as I do all Michael Bay action movies. But the anti-peace, anti-compromise, anti-empathy messages were pretty troubling.

Especially since every time Optimus was losing a fight, he would plead with the bad guys for mercy, but showed none to his opponents. He really is Megatron from the G1 movie in that respect. There's nothing badass about that, he's a backstabbing weasel.

Also, I imagine the "Dino" nickname came about thusly:

Sideswipe: "Look, you can tag along, Mirage, but don't let it go to your head. I'm still the top bot around here, understand? I'm Frank Sinatra, and you're Dean Martin, bitch. Live with it."

This is the true ending to DotM.

Megatron saves the day, but is hunted by the humans because they do not know the depths of Optimus Prime's insanity.

He's the hero Cybertron deserves, but not the one it needs right now. So they'll hunt him, because he can take it. Because he's not their hero. He's a silent guardian, a watchful protector. A dark knight.

Optimus Prime is basically Jack Bauer. A murderous, psychotic <political> wetdream wrapped up in a thin robotic shell.

Mod note: Please don't get specifically political! That's against the messageboard rules.

I agree. I loved the context in how if you knew how the line was previously used in a self sacrificing moment in the Wrath of Khan to going the opposite way in using it to justify genocide. I thought it was a great use of "the" line and I loved all the Spock references like Bee saying "you will always be my friend" to Sam, another line from the Wrath of Khan. I thought all the Star Trek references were funny and enjoyable but it's not the first time it's happened in this franchise, in the '07 movie Bee uses the "message from star fleet captain" line as well.

Those GI Joe Sigma 6's may have some good shotgunny stuff for Megatron. Plus those handles may be good for his grip. *runs to storage*

Great podcast, and I think Gog pretty much sums up how I felt about the movie, both in terms of it's successes and it's failures, especially when it comes to the bizarre behaviour of the human cast.

That was actually the thing that dragged the movie down for me more than anything else. With the exception of Lennox and Epps, and Francis Mcdormand, the humans characters were like nails down a chalkboard every time they opened their mouths. I hated them. Simmonds, Sam, Malkovich, Wang, the parents, all of them. Loud, shouty, brainless, screaming idiots, one and all. If I were trapped in a room with those characters for more than thirty seconds, I'd chew through my own radial artery to end the pain.

The movie did have some great effects, great story ideas, and fantastic individual sequences though. I loved Laserbeak, and the sheer genocidal evil of the Decepticons slaughtering humans and captured robots alike carried a real punch for me.

When Bay hits the mark, he REALLY hits the mark. I mean, look at the awesome forest battle. Greatest Transformer Moment EVER! But when he misses it, he misses it so badly I can hardly stand to watch the result.

Ah well. Either way it'll take lots of money at the box office, which means lots of profit for Hasbro, which means more cool toys for us. So here's to Michael Bay: A horrendously inconsistent film-maker but an awesome cash-cow! :drunk

Well, that was 4 hours of great listening - Problem is though that there was so much interesting discussion that I can't specifically remember what I wanted to bring up here...
...Well, I'll just have to listen through it all again I guess. :popcorn

A really in-depth and fairly well balanced, round table discussion guys - Excellent job!

Whilst I almost had a fit when I saw who Soundwave died at the hands of during the film :mad , as I thought that was a scene better suited for Barricade both for his character and to end the feud that started in the 1st flick  , Laserbeak was easily the shining character in DOTM along with Megatron - 'Poncho' Megatron needs a (Takara Issue) Leader Class figure with Double-Barrelled Fusion Shotgun and Custom-Frayed Heshen Tarp Cloak! :rock
