Riddle me this. where was the Classics series and WfC at the time of the Unicron triology? Surely, if Hasbro had those, they could have used the money of them to put classsics and WFC out with no movie.

Odly I don´t remember Kup, Straxus or any others at that time. Gee, I wonder why?

So let me get this straight.. You guys aren´t going to the biggest TF convenction, filled with people who worked on various shows, news about upcoming lines, oportunities to meet other fans, toys to buy..just because Bay´s nominated?

    Mind...blown.

I love how people are using this as a reason why they aren't going to botcon.

"What? Michael Bay is being HONORED?! HMPH! My weekend is ruined! Cancel my tickets!"

Eh, good for them. It's a ploy to sell movie tickets, but that's not such a bad thing, it means Hasbro will still care about the franchise after the movies.

He doesn't go to conventions, does he? I'm sure I read that somewhere. Not that it should make a difference, really. I would expect he'll go in next year.

I don't think anyone said thats why they're not going, just for me personally it makes the decision to not go to this year's seem even wiser.

You're right, if someone doesn't agree with your OPINION, then they're automatically wrong and not as smart as you, yep, makes perfect sense to me

    Yeah, Classics was dead.
They renamed the line and kept producing the product.

If the product never sold, they wouldn't have revived it- under a differnt name- later.

hell, they even made the product under the ROTF line... or will you argue that you saw Turbo Tracks and Jazz in the movie?

No one is stating the Classics line never sold. Again, can we please stop using the colossally flawed argument? It has been stated many times that it was a filler line between Cybertron and the movie toys and Hasbro had ZERO intentions of continuing it. However, after the success of the movie and it's line of toys, Hasbro gave the TF team a slightly longer leash to explore more collector oriented lines (Classics 2.0/Universe, RTS, Generations, etc) while still focusing mainly on the it's cash cow, the movieverse. Plain. And. Simple.

Given how some of the movie fans act like Transformers is only about the live action movies maybe they just don't want to deal with people going on about how the movies are the only thing important to ever happen in Transformers. Lots of really nice movie fans out there, but some movie fans just don't act very nice toward the people who aren't fans of the movies.

Perhaps some people just feel like if Bay is going to be there then the con is just going to be about Bay and his movies. It's kind of like the movies just can't share the spot light they have to have it all.

I'm mostly guessing since my reason for not going is that it's a bit more than what I'd want to spend on a vacation.

Last time Botcon was in Pasadena the Hasbro design panel was cut off after 15 minutes when it was crashed by LEFT CHEEK LEFT CHEEK, whatever his name is. Pissed me off. They should have given him his own panel so those of us who wanted to talk toys could do so.

I wouldn't be at all surprised to see more of the same this year, especially with this HOF announcement.

I don't understand why people are so upset about this. I've seen arguments from people saying the movies destroyed Transformers (seems perfectly alive to me); the movies disrespected Transformers (since when does a brand created and maintained solely to peddle toys to children have any respect?); comments that it's "another reason" not to care about BotCon" that seem to suggest it's because it sold out to the mainstream; arguments that the people involved with the movies don't deserve to be in the Hall of Fame (even though the human inductees are generally people who had a major hand in making the brand what it was, what it is today and how successful it has become, which fit the bill for Bay and Spielberg, whether you like the results of what they did or not).

As I recall, it was because Gibson was supposed to be in the movie panel the previous day, but was in hospital at the time. He turned up for the Paramount party under the weather, so they shuffled him into the Sunday Hasbro panel, which was apparently the only panel on that day without anything particularly important going on/guest that costs Fan Publications money.

It's just that movies tend to take over things. Comic Con used to be about comic books now it just seems like a platform for launching movies. Dragon Con used to be gamers, Trekkies and assorted geekdom but when they decided to go more mainstream it seems like the other stuff got squeezed out.

With it being the last Transformers film for who knows how long you could hardly blame Hasbro and Bot Con for going all out for the last film. So I'm thinking they will go a bit overboard.

Although I think we're on different sides of the road with the HOF inductees, I can't help but agree with this statement.

Last I checked, BotCon 2007 was the most awesome BotCon ever, mostly to do with the fact a shitload of fans got to see the movie together, as fans. Of course, the first movie being relatively decent helped.

We're probably not going to recapture that magic, either in the movies, or in terms of convention experience, but hey, it can't hurt to try.

I went to both the 2007 and 2009 one and that's pretty much how it was and the fact it's in Pasadena again so soon were pretty much the factors in my deciding not to attend this years.
