I think Peter David is a pretty speedy author - I remember he used to turn out a couple of star trek novels plus his comic work in the time other authors took to write one.

 

Well, someone asked him in the thread - apparently he hadn't been working on it much longer than 2 weeks.

But that's all he's been working on nonstop.

Keep in mind that when it comes to a novelization, it's FAR less work than an original story because you're essentially embellishing a screenplay. And considering the man's vast body of work in both novels and comic books I think he has a lot of experience with that sort of thing.

Also, he says that Hasbro was very good in helping him out, so there wasn't much red tape getting in the way if he had a question about the franchise.

Either way, he appears to have enjoyed working on the book, so hopefully this ups the odds we can get him writing for a TF comic/novel someday.

 

Impressive. That doesn't surprise me though given how much the dude writes.

He's a machine. And not the crap-spewing type. The dude did an entire spinoff Star Trek series of novels which if memory serves only had one character who was in a couple episodes of TNG to tether it castwise.

And it did well, I presume. Because he wrote a number of these books and subsequent spinoff stories.

He's that good.

PAD writes really fast. I met him many times at conventions, long before he became popular, and he mentioned writing a book (on Caesar?) over a weekend.

That said, this is the man who wrote the novelizations of Star Trek V, Return of the Swamp Thing, Batman Forever and Spider-Man 3. He'll happily adapt (and often improve) a shitty screenplay if the money is good.

Pete's a fast writer. There was a time when he would write 4 comics and at least 1 novel a month.

I don't know how he does it and have the stories read well as most writers who would attempt his workload burn themselves out quickly.

I am really looking forward to reading it.

 

You should understand that PAD's SupergirlINO was a character he inherited, not one he created. I liked the title, but it was not his best work IMO. At least in terms of mainstream books, that would have to be his 10 year run on HULK.

 

Two weeks?! That's Stephen King style speed. Sounds interesting, but I'm just wondering - did he base it solely on the finalized script, or did he get to see a rough version of the movie without all the finished visuals? If there are significant visual effect additions/changes that could affect the novelization of a scene, will he have the chance to tweak his version, or is he stuck with what he's done?

 

Did you find it on amazon.com?? I couldn't find it. I was looking and found this:

It said it came out on December 4th of this year so it obviously can't be the novelization but I have no idea what it could be as the product description doesn't really say much. This was the only thing I could find for Transformers: Dark of the Moon

 

Best Novelization conversion from script and movie while filming was still ongoing. Was the novel " The Abyss".

Really? Other than "Mortal Kombat", I've yet to be disappointed by a novelization of a film. I've read them since I was a kid. I used to do it for fun, now I do it to A) make sense of the crappy stories thrown out today, and B) Follow the dialog since I'm deaf in one ear now.

Errr... it's a Bay film. Peter David can only improve it exponentially.

It'll be like his Spider-Man 3 novel. In the original ending (tested bad with viewers), the Venom suit "ate" Eddie before being exploded. Same ending in the SM3 novel. I know this from reading both the novel and a early shooting script of SM3. If scenes get changed in the film (99% of the original endings on paper never make it to the big screen on ANY film), the original version of the scene will appear in the novel, since it'll be based on a first shooting draft, not the latest rewrites, since they need to write it, proof it, edit it, print it, and circulate it two months before the film is released.

Agreed. Got the ebook version, and everything about it SCREAMED amateur fanfic... and not in a good way.

 

Color me as one of the Peter's fans. Loved his work in the Star Trek & B5 universes.

As early poster said, he can't do worse than ADF, and likely better. I can't recall the last item ADF wrote I enjoyed & only a couple of novelizations owned, wheras I have several PD books on my shelf & note when he's working a new title.
