What is Grimlock doing inside the Extermination Drone? Did Shockwave recycle Grimlock's Spark?
I understand why Grimlock hates him so much, in Spotlight Shockwave

Is Megatron's spark somehow different/special? Is the "unbound" term just a flowery metaphor or an actual reference to some special power?

Maybe Megatron's spark evolved in a different way, like BM Megatron's.

Could it be that there is a reference to the Rite performed in The Dark Ages by the Fallen?

 

Spotlight Shockwave (IDW) and Age of Wrath (Dreamwave) are two different continuities... Not that you could tell these days.

Yes, he had the artwork in a folder with him at AA as well, we had a good old look through there. The final page of the issue looked awesome
