Naw I thought it was well placed with Kup there. Besides in War it's not uncommon to feel the brotherly love vibe.

...Oh, okay. Guess I didn't count on that. Kind of an odd decision, though, given that in that coloration he looks so much like Smokescreen with a gray body....

Maby, but there didn't seem to be much brotherly love in AHM, especially between Ironhide and Mirage. Artwork is nice, better than the ongoing atleast, but I'll be skipping this. No offense to people who enjoy reading this, but I don't understand why people still love the character of Ironhide so much, or atleast, IDW's version of him. He brutally attacked one of his fellow Autobots, and as far as I can tell, got away with it since he apparently had good connections with Prime. I've hated him ever since.

I'd say that was a completely different situation though. IH#1 takes place before the war really takes a toll on anyone. AHM was their darkest hour, with nobody to lead them, and a traitor among them.

That's true, I wish somehow this subplot was closed off better. To my recollection, Ironhide tried to apologize and Mirage essentially said "Go F yourself," and then they were attacked by the Swarm. Mirage kinda just took it and nobody did anything. We never heard from Mirage again, except when Cliffjumper referred to Mirage as a "flake" when he defected to Hot Rod's crew in the ongoing.

I loved the flashback part of the issue, it had a cool "War Within" feel to it. Also loved seeing all the Autobot cameos thrown in.

I was expecting much from this series since I'm not a big Ironhide fan, but so far, so good.

But did Ironhide even have any proof of this? It's been a long time since I read this trash, but if I recalled, he was just assuming things, which just made his character come off as even more of a simple minded thug.

Or better yet, it would have been better if this stupid subplot was never introduced in the first place. What still pisses me off is that we all know Shane McCarthy would never have had let Ironhide beat down his pet darling, fan wank character Drift like that, but was more than willing to do it to an establised G1 character, (and one from the first year of characters, no less.) Shane sucks as a writer, and he destroyed the character of Mirage for no damn reason.

Actually Mirage saved Ironhide from the Swarm and I think we were supposed to assume Mirage had forgiven him by this action alone.

Not very good writing though, I agree. AHM had a good premise, shoe-horned in as it was, but never seemed to get it's act together and actually unify everything as it was supposed to.

Unlike Ironhide #1, which was resplendent with nice touches - Hot Rod's Garrus-9 crew in the background, Ramjet's dialogue, Ironhide's ability to "see it coming" and even Kup's original body from his own spotlight (though in a somewhat better shape). It's the incedental stuff that really works well, rewarding long-time readers without making it confusing for those new to the series.

And that artwork is just superb, up there with Don's earlier stuff (I'd argue it's actually better) and Guido's AHM work. All in a great read, and happily available on PSN, which makes it easy/cheap to keep up with while I wait for the trade.

I think the only proof they had was revealed in a flashback. Megatron, or Starscream says "one of your own betrayed you" bla bla bla.

I wasn’t sure whether or not I was going to buy this series at first. As much as I like the character of Ironhide, he’s dead in the monthly series, which meant that this mini-series looked like a story set in the past. I didn’t know how relevant it would be to the main plot, or how interesting it would be since the fate of characters in the story wasn’t in doubt. But I took a chance, and the issue surprised me with a few curveballs.

After an opening page set on present-day Cybertron, the story does indeed shift to the past, millions of years ago not long after Optimus becomes Prime. There’s a firefight in the streets of a Cybertronian city to keep the Decepticons from advancing and taking the city. A number of characters make appearances, and it’s established that Ironhide is Prime’s bodyguard.

The Autobots win the fight, and celebrate afterwards. In a possible nod to War Within, an assassin attempts to kill Prime, and Ironhide throws himself in front of the shot, taking a hit almost identical to the one he took in ongoing #1. And then he wakes up on present day Cybertron, thanking Ratchet for patching him up, and wondering where everyone is. The next issue promo shows him fighting the Swarm.

So what in the world is going on here? I don’t really know… it could be any number of things. There are all sorts of possibilities here, and I don’t really have enough clues to make a guess at this point. Time travel? The Ironhide on Earth was a fake? Alternate universe? Hopefully it’s more creative than any of these standard sci-fi options, but there’s no way to know. In the meantime, I’m intrigued by this story twist that I was not expecting. I’m glad I bought the issue.

Overall: Not what I expected, story-wise, and in a good way. My ambivalence about the series helped me avoid spoilers, leaving me pleasantly surprised when I actually read the book. Casey Coller’s art is very good as well. I’d recommend the series

someone's pissed that mirage got his rich ass whooped. And yeah I agree with Anderson what's going on? Is Ironhide alive again? I hope not that'd be a total copout

It was actually quite a good read, but I'm not keen on Ironhide being resurrected
(which he is, the solicitation for the coming issues has him fighting the Swarm on Cybertron)
    .

Ironhide being brought back and Optimus Prime being released and restored to leadership of the Autobots (as you just know he will be within the next 4 issues) undoes all the work that the first issue of the ongoing did. While it was controversial at least it mixed things up but now they've all been undone.

Don't worry all he does is hop from thread to thread hating on Shane McCarthy and Ironhide both at the same time (I don't think he sees the irony in hating the writing, but then also buying into it as completely as he has).

I tried to skim this thread but didn't see this answered,

Who's the assassin that TF his face before he shot at Prime? Looks like a Action Master to me

EDIT: nevermind I found it, it's Axer the Actionmaster

Someone need's to take off their Mirage-colored glasses and actually look at the big picture.

Ironhide attacked Mirage out of two things: Wrecklessness and anger. You may not want to believe it, but Mirage has been a suspected traitor in alot of continuities. G1, IDW, Marvel, Dreamwave. It's part of his character. So because of this, and cause Cliffjumper influenced him, he became Ironhide's prime suspect.

Now Ironhide went over the line. If basic info doesn't hammer it in enough, Ironhide #1 has the character himself say that he'd do anything for Prime. They have a brotherly bond. In AHM not only was he filled with anger and remorse due to what happened to Prime, but because an Autobot, who was under Prime's command, was the reason for it. He let his anger get the best of him and took it out on who he thought was responsible. He's felt bad since.

The only reason you don't like Ironhide, from what I gather, is because he beat up your favorite character and that you're holding a dumb grudge against it.

I'm sorry if I'm sounding harsh but it's astonishing to me how something so simplistic can make someone so angry.

This conversation has been had with Mirage232 several times.

To save both you and him time, this is how it plays out now.

Mirage232 says that his favourite character got shafted basically because McCarthy wouldn't dare have anyone beat up his precious Drift.

Someone else points out that Drift wasn't even with the Autobots that got betrayed, and indeed had no contact with any of the group of Cybertron or even Optimus Prime himself before Kup's crew turned up at the end of issue four.

Mirage232 then replies with something like it was stupid horrible writing for Ironhide to go and beat him up like that, and also that he now hates Ironhide forever and refuses to buy his figure and that he was never brought to justice.

Someone then argues that not only did Kup chew him out over it, but that as was shown in AHM 15 (the issue where Kup is resurrected) Prime has a soft soft regarding Ironhide and is too open to his influence.

Mirage232 then counters that that issue wasn't written by Shane McCarthy and thus doesn't count. Or something.

Someone points out that he appears to be buying too much into the writing that he apparently hates. And then the whole horrible cycle starts again.

I like to think that I've saved everyone some time here.

Just pick this up. Love the parallels between Ironhide protection of Optimus and of Hot Rod(imus). Love the art--and the 'Great War' Optimus is a nice mix between his younger self from SL Blurr, and the 'War Within' style used in Stormbringer (and the Ironhide Coda story). Funny how the "mini"s seem to be better than the ongoing title excluding BB mini.

Obviously Mirage232 does not realize that Ironhide is a dick,he's always been a ruff and rowdy, good ole boy, dick.

Get over yourself bro and get over the fact that Ironhide beat the shit out of Mirage.

Now back on topic, just read IH#1,thought it was pretty good and can't wait to get the rest of the mini.
