The problem is, if the reason no DVD has been made is because Hasbro and Cartoon Network are breaking up their business relationship, a petition is unlikely to change anything.

I just thought I'd throw something out here in the midst of what I see as a few peeps trying to take some sort of side in an argument:

I love G1. I love G2. I love CR/RiD. I love Galaxy Force. I love Alternators/Binal Techs. I love "Classics"-styled figures. I [have grown to] love "movie-verse" figures. I [have grown to] love Animated figures. I enjoy elements from every expression of Transformers, even the ones I didn't include preceding this statement (Optimal Optimus/Primal Prime; Ultra Jetstorm = awesome). There are some things that aren't my cup of tea and things that are, but even with things I really don't like, I'm glad the expression is there for others that do. I feel very compelled to say that I'm disappointed that it seems some feel compelled to express love towards one facet of Transformers by hating another.

I may prefer Optimus being a "trukk not munkey", for example, but I don't have to own a single Primal toy if I don't want to. I'm not keen on Megatron as a T-Rex, but I don't have one in my collection. If someone else loves those characters, then awesome.

That being said, I'm really excited about getting both Rodimus and Ironhide. For those who feel the same about Animated as I similarly feel about Beast Wars, you're probably not going to be hunting for the figures anyways.

Also, if you're going to argue any one side of an argument, just use some calm logic that's not like Swiss cheese. :)

Does it feel odd being a better example of a strawman than the other side of your hypothetical argument?

Don't worry dude, someday there will be something you really enjoy, which will be incessantly talked down by someone who makes you wonder why they are incapable of just stating their opinion and moving on. It won't be me, because I'm a human, but it'll happen sooner or later.

But the real point of the thread is ... I (and many others) get to enjoy nifty Animated Rodimus and Ironhide toys later this year, and you get to enjoy seeing others enjoy things you don't enjoy.

Oh, I'm well aware of this. I was just making a catty comment to express my disappointment.

I've actually spoken w/ a CN rep regarding the release of TFA S3 who unfortunately declined to comment.

My guess is, as others suspect, that there was some sort of contract breach as a result of the Hasbro/Discovery partnership for "The Hub", and now TFA is seriously tangled in legal red tape between Hasbro and CN.

I believe TFA S3 would still be a strong seller regardless of the show's canceled status and being off the air. But it may require a strong case to convince both Hasbro and CN of this.

And I have a feeling Hasbro would like nothing better than to resolve whatever issue they have w/ CN soon so they can air TFA on "The Hub" eventually. And when TF3 hits theaters and DVD/BR later, TFA titles would be a nice tie-in for the kids market.

Petitions have a very poor track record. Very few have been successful out of the thousands of petitions created for thousands of different properties.

And I'm surprised such a small number of signatures as 10,000 makes any kind of difference to a studio or distributor. 100,000 maybe, but 10K seems rather weak fan support, IMO.

Also, it's far too easy to fake signatures for online petitions.

Myself and fellow staff members at toonzone.net are trying a different approach.

We're developing a series of "Open Letter" campaigns to not only show support for DVD releases of specific animated properties, but to cite facts and stats on why they would be profitable releases. And we also provide contact info to the fanbase so they can show their support on their own time which I feel is a far more personal touch than just putting your name on a petition. It shows that you care enough that you took the time to write. And if mail starts piling in from fans, it's going to get noticed.

Also as part of each individual campaign, we'll offer alternative suggestions for distribution and even take the time to explain how to market effectively to both the fanbase and consumer market.

Transformers Animated is currently on the "bulletin board" so to speak, along with a few other TF properties which have yet to be released in the US. But I was waiting until Botcon to ask my questions to Hasbro directly before launching a campaign for any TF titles.

I think any of the Transformers Cartoons are worth issuing or reissuing - they should can the rubbish box art that would be a turn off to non-fans and go for a simple style that cross brands with the movie style lettering or coloring.
So all the shows match on a shelf.

Then they'd pick up sale from the post 2007 'Newbie' fans who'd take one look at a cartoon robot on the box and not even pick the box up to look at. but if they think its got something to do with the movie - even tagentally they might pick it up.

Perhaps not just selling a whole season as a set but parts 1&2 sets like Beast Machines is the best way to do it.

But I feel crossbranding any and all of the older cartoon shows - as well as showing the ones they are able to do so on the hub is well worthwhile - but they need to keep them in set slots and not move them around to much so they build a audience too.

In the long run it can only do Hasbro good to increase sales on their DVDs and allow more visibility to the shows.

For example Takara-Tomy want to make a new mold Star Saber and if more people in the west knew who he was then that's another toy that would more easily sell in America etc... than if a lot of people were clueless as to who he is.

I was trying to be objective, maybe you haven't found it in stores and aren't willing to pay the inflated net price, that's your decision, but some people may not have that reservation. The point I'm trying to make is that at least they are out there in some form so that those who wish to buy them can. I think the anger is misplaced at Hasbro here when it should be directed at those few unscrupulous people have bought every last one in a store in order to sell for a huge profit on ebay.

i am aware of that, i was referring to the fact that they were store exclusives, i guess my grammar was unclear :dunce

Tell me where anything about Johnator's post, sig or avatar even begin to suggest he's primarily a movie-fan.

Let's not bring other groups of the fandom into this >>.

I read his post, the only thing it suggests to me is that he's kind of a dick.

Seriously Johnator - if the roles were reversed, I would understand why you would be pissed over something like this.

Oh and I will also make one other thing clear: I think some people on both sides of this argument are taking it way too far.

I'm hoping that a lot of people will make noise at BotCon 2010 about season 3 coming to DVD in hopes of changing Hasbro's mind and trying to work with CN on this.

Guess I can't. I went back and reread it, but all I saw were references to a "huge blockbuster movie" and "more movie-based approach." Which, although positive references, cannot be absolutely construed as being proof of a movie-based fan.

    I stand corrected.

I completely agree, the Last Air Bender petition also encourages a write in campaign and includes the backing of the producers of the show and the creators of the music.

I know that it is a different situation but every signature or voice heard represents several others that haven't sought out the avenues to be heard and can translate into sales.

I'm surprised folks still think season 3 will somehow appear on dvd. We were told right from the begining that it was a joint production. They aren't playing nice together anymore hence it won't happen.

Maybe at some point in the future should the rights change hands, see G1 and the number of times & differnt companies that's been released.

Maybe the company that holds the rights to the dvds (CN?) is just waiting for TF3 to hit the dvd alley, so they can hitch a ride on the movie succes.

Just speculating here..it might take years.

Just in case anyone is interested, I bought the DVD's linked to above, and got them the other day. I've only watched the first four eposides, but so far they're pretty nice quality. The menu is pretty simple, but it does the job. The episodes have the little CN logo in the corner, and sometimes there's an advertisment across the bottom of the screen for the show that would have been on next, but all in all, not too bad! Just thought some of the TF:A fans might be interested.
