We never "see" anything with Scorponok that hints at scanning organics.

Oh, well, we don't really need that explained, we can deduce it. We see he is a scorpion. Thats what I meant, he probably scanned a scorpion based on his disguise.

I think that Scorponk is just a Cybertronian Version of a Scorpion. In my Theories the Dinobots start as Decepticons. As Decepticons they can make m chaos, destory Cars, Buildings and do other Things that Giant evil Robots do, later they feel mercy with the Human race and help the Autobots.

    I have two Suggestions:
    1. Dinobots are much older than the primes and a extraterrestial race created them , this race also created the all spark, the primes and the other Transformers
    2. Dinobots are Combat Robots which were constructed by Decepticon scientists. Because Decepticons maybe like Scary Creatures they chose Dinosaurs

I actually dont like the Theory that Dinobots scan animatronic Dinosaurs, sure it would be cool then, but i think organic Dinosaurs are too Jurassic Park like.

Ohh and for all those who think Dinosaurs are generally childish, a Lion or a Crocodile is like an Pussy Cat compared to Theropods. So a Lion or any today living Carnivore is more childish than a Meat eating Dinosaur.

We see he is scorpion-shaped. So did Optimus et all scan humans in order to become human-shaped?

    Wait, this sounds awfully familiar...
...how about this, you have it your way, I'll have it my way. Lets face it, even if Bay or Orci said, "he scanned a scorpion for his diguise mode", people would still challenge it despite it coming from the horse's mouth.

Blackout and Scorponok landed in Afganistan, BO scanned the chopper, Scorponok scanned a scorpion. Perhaps he was some kind of Cybertronian insect to begin with, possibly explaining his need to scan a similar disguise.

It seems obvious to me, in my interpretation, that he scanned a scorpion.
I also thought he was the first example of an 'Insecticon'.

Before you ask, "why Afganistan, BO could have scanned the chopper anytime" - BO landed in Afganistan, scanned a passing chopper (as we see that the TFs scan to disguise themselves very quickly after arrival), that was subsequently shot down in Afganistan by BO or the Taliban/aggressors. :thumb

Scorponok, if he scanned anything, scanned the engine of Blackout's alt mode.

    Ebay:

In the prequel comic, Blackout scans and destroys the chopper himself. Just like STarscream and Barricade too.

Scorponok, from the markings on him, indeed was supposed to transform into Blackout's engine - but ILM never made him transformable, the only time we see him ejecting from Blackout the shot is (bay-style) blurry and you can't see a thing.

In the old Marvel comics, the TFs scanned earthly disguises because of the damaged probe the Ark sent out, that only picked up mechanical shapes, not organics. (which doesn't explain Ravage and Laserbeak, but oh well). But in Bayfomers it's quite apparent that the TFs can percieve organics very well. Scorponok, if he was even sentient (if not, the Blackout did the scan for him) choose a scorpion mode because it was suitable for the area he would be working in, the desert (seeing as these creatures have been living there for millions of years).

In my own movie interpretation, Ravage chooses a black panther/jaguar ROBOT MODE (he transforms, with mass-shifting,into a cellphone) because it's a form that's much better designed for stalking and hiding then the humanoid body shape most TFs use. Beast modes, people often forget, are - in G1 - NOT for disguise (who'd think the Predacons are real lions/bulls/rhinos?) but for combat and other militaristic purposes. Grimlock's dinosaur mode lets him excel at melee and rip opponents to shred with teeth and claw, something he could not do in robot mode. (that's also the reason I find it low on imagination that Ravage and Scorponok had no alternate or robot modes in the movie, if Scorpy transforms into an engine, that's OK for me but it should have been shown).

I have no problem with this in theory, but in ROTF - Ravage. Between being shot from Soundwave's stomach and landing in the ocean, he scanned a cat?? That's gonna be one pissed off kitty if it's in the sea...

With Blackout and Scorponok I always wonder how they decided which bit Scorponok would be when they scanned the helicoptor. Did Scorp go, "Well, I'll just be this little bit here and you be the rest". Seems an odd bit of separation to me. Especially if Scorp was Blackout's engine. You'd think he'd be a bit which didn't render the helicoptor mode unable to fly when they separated. Of course Blackout was able to fly just fine later anyway. Maybe he just went back to his scans and reformatted himself a new non-Scorpy engine. As for Scorponok's animal shape, I just assume there was a scorpion hiding out on the helicoptor they scanned and Scorponok just thought 'I'd like me some of that too'.

We see TFs can have two arms and two legs prior to Earth from the Cybertron flashback to Megatron in the first movie so Optimus probably didn't have to scan any humans for his robot mode. Whether that means they also have animal-like 'robot' mode on Cybertron too which could explain Scorponok or Ravage's animal forms another way who knows. Or maybe Soundwave just scanned the internet for a stealthy robot mode for Ravage and decided on a kitty for him before sending him down.

Or maybe her eally doesn't need a engine because he's not even a real helicopter?

Scorponk is actually a Triple Changer:

In the Movie he is a Part from Blackout
He can transform from his original Robot mode into an robot Scorpion

In the film he's just the engine and a scorpion (unless I missed his robot mode). As a toy he's a robot and scorpion (although his toy can also plug to the bottom of Blackout, but that don't make him no engine). He's not really a triple changer to me unless all three modes are seen in a single main media. I suppose the comics and maybe the novels might come closest as he's featured in his robot mode and scorpion mode in those, and obviously he's hidden as part of Blackout when they're in helicoptor mode. But I feel the toys and the movie count more than the comics and novels.

    I'm having a noodly pick day. :)

and maybe it's possible that this is just early miss-information to throw us off?
