GM Confirms Chevy Volt Photos Are Real...Somewhat - U.S. News Rankings and Reviews

GM spokesman Rob Peterson told Edmunds Inside Line that the Volt "is taking part in the Transformers 2 movie," but said the car in the pictures "is still a concept version. It's obviously different from the original," he said, "But this is not the final version at this stage." Peterson "did admit that the vehicle in the video was 'representative of the production vehicle,' which he said would be 'revealed fairly soon.'"
    funny trivia from that article:

UPDATE: "A source within GM has...confirmed" to Edmunds that "the Volt spotted on the streets of Long Beach, California was not a full running prototype, but a fiberglass replica of the production Volt design riding on a Malibu chassis with a full Malibu drivetrain and interior." Though "from 25 feet away...the Volt looks like a real car," in truth "like many movie replicas, the Volt is sporting everything from unique show car paint to oversized brake discs made of cardboard." The movie's car, however, is likely a close representation of what the finished Volt will look like. " Set for production debut next summer, the Chevy Volt will be released at the same time Transformers 2 is hitting movie theaters," so the car in the film will tie-in closely to marketing for the real car -- and the two will most likely look the same.

Interesting! I wonder if the detail parts are REALLY cardboard on the movie model, though. That doesn't seem too....durable/drivable.

I mean, it has to be a Transformer, but they talk about the model like it's mean to just sit in the background and be looked at.

    Well that's good info but

It would be to expensive to go around using concept cars with engines and driving them....at least with a fiberglass body and no actual engine, GM can ensure that bay won't blow it up...........at least, for now...

If the Volt is meant to be a vehicle for a Transformers character, I wonder why it has cardboard brake discs, wouldn't that look fake? Bumblebee had fake brake discs, too, but they made out of steel as part of the wheel covers, if I recall correctly.

Could be ILM is just THAT much better at CGI now, and simply uses the wannabe-Volt as a stand in for the CGI version...

Whatever, that is one sick car.If that is Wheeljack I will so own the Hasbro version
of it.I also ask that Bay consider naming him Wheeljack, cuz theres no TF without
him in some sense, after all we have only seen Ratchet in a couple of pics early on
and then he has disappeared from anymore leaked pics or clips. So finally I say Bay
put Wheeljack in the 2nd movie if your getting rid of Ratchet, the autobots need
    a scientist/doctor.

HAH!!! I was right(ish) in the podcast. Though it seems as if hte Malibu is going to be a stable/frame mate with the Volt if it's oft being used for stand in parts.

No, there would be no point in filming the real Volt then. The only case where a CG version will be used is during transformation sequences... This is Bay, he likes to shoot as much as he can REAL.

I doubt they're using cardboard for any of the vehicles, that just seems like your typical exec who has no idea what he's talking about and is just saying things for extreme examples.

Who said there's no engine? It's just got the Malibu drivetrain instead of the final Volt drivetrain.

Well at least that helps explain how they got the car so early since the Volt is still a long ways from rolling out. Yea I normally don't keep up with American cars but since the Volt actually represents out of the box thinking for an American car company it's actually managed to peek my interest whenever there is a news story about the car.

Not sure it's Soundwave just because he's blue, but if he is then they should release a Soundwave version of the Volt that has a really ass kicking sound system with it :D
