It isn't much, but Yahoo Auctions has a preorder with pictures of FansProject City Commander set. Most of them are the same resin prototype, but one is a nice new closeup of the head. Pictures mirrored below.

That looks pretty nice... and I like the take on Magnus' face, with the stern mouth and nose guard. And the pivoting ankles are just fantastic.

But I think I figured out what bugs me about this set: it's all the extra mass. Why does it need it? The armor is solid in trailer mode, so it can't act as a car carrier. That would be fine, if that mass was needed for the armor. But it's not, clearly, which is why he has that giant gun. I know, it's a fan-made thing, not an official product, so I can't really be too hard on it... it just seems like with a bit of re-designing they could have made it work as a car carrier and armor, without needing the giganto-gun in robot mode.

Ah well, still looking forward to it.

Still trying to find something I like about this. Extra-kibbly is not how I like my figs especially when (as stated previously) it's not required.

This looks real nice. If I had the spare cash I would preorder it, but my money is being saved for the new classics......damn wife and her "budget".

It looks awesome but I don't have the 70 bucks to spend on this thing, especially with gas prices the way they are.

Nah, still not feeling it. Like Split and Mocha said, there's a lot of bulk that's not efficiently used, and the trailer doesn't appear to have any practical function in alt-mode. That and it doesn't alter the body proportions; that is, the shoulders etc are still in the same place, so the individual body parts wind up bulkier, (arms, legs etc), but the rest of his proportions aren't altered to make it work (his chest, for instance, is as narrow as without the armour).

It's pretty nice for a fan piece, but I wouldn't shell out for it if I had the money.

I cannot wait for this upgrade to come out. I love the classics Ultra Magnus figure. He is really poseable and this upgrade will make him more bad ass then ever. I got to preorder this soon.

I do get what people are saying about the bulk and trailer but this Magnus is still pure win for me, to the best version of him we’ve ever had. So until Hasbro put out something official to top this I’m saying this guy is the best so far with animated a close second.

Given all the detachables on Classics Jetfire, give me one good reason Hasbro couldn't have included stuff like this with Classics UM (other than the fact he was packaged with Skywarp).
