    Maybe Walmart knew people would wait for clearance no matter what price was offered so they picked only what they could profit decently on at $25.

    Kind of? More like they knew he was an auto-purchase for some collectors who would be willing to pay the "Optimus tax" and then STILL make a profit after the other fans buy it at close-out.

    Wonder how much this will go on clearance for, picked up hotrod for $15, so I hope I can get this for a decent price too.

    I'd love to grab another at a cheaper price like everyone seems to be counting on around here - but I also don't really see Wal-Mart and Hasbro having trouble moving Optimus Prime figures, even at that price. I can't help but feel like its just wishful thinking that this will go on any sort of widespread clearance. They are certainly already moving from shelves without issue in my area.

    Well since I have no patience to wait for the Walmarts around me to stock these, I went ahead and got one from eBay. Great looking box, red is lighter than the reds on the vintage or the previous reissues, except for the 25th anniversary edition. Here he is with the 2012 Asia reissue on the left and the G1 on the right.

    Overall glad I have him, only wish those Autobot symbols on his shoulders were tampoed on like with most recent reissues, like the Encore, 25th, 2012 Asia, Chronicles set.

    Cool. If the price is low enough then maybe an Ebay flash sale discount will help.
    These sellers are obviously getting them from their local Wal-Mart and then flipping them on Ebay for $10-$20 profit by selling them for higher. Not sure that I'll bite at those higher prices for a G1 toy reissue that is trailerless.

    I wouldn't bite. Seems like every Walmart now has received a case of six, I don't think people will have trouble finding one.

    But they're not. In order to make any money on a $50 toy, you seriously have to get, at minimum $72 shipped.

    72 sale
    50 toy - > 22
    3 sales tax -> 19
    8 shipping -> 11
    10 fees -> 1

    Now, to expand that dollar, you have to raise your asking price, but, remember, you only get 86 cents of every dollar. You're talking nearly $82 before you break past minimum wage. Who thinks there's a market for this at $82? Look how much of the thread is upset about it not having a trailer at its original price! The few I've seen sell so far haven't sold at a profit from my perspective unless they're arguing over mislabeled shelf tags or otherwise recieving a discount.

    Found some at the local Wal-Mart the other day. I swore I wasn't going to get this reissue at full price. However after seeing him (and Siege Shockwave) together, and having a $50 gift card I won from work, I decided to get both (which made them both $25 each which is more acceptable). While I don't like the idea of him not having his trailer, I did like the bright vibrant colors and love the fact he has the longer stacks again. I hated those shorter stacks from the earlier TRU reissues. Speaking of, I still do have my sealed TRU reissue that has the trailer and I also think I have my older G1 Prime trailer laying around. I know I have the G2 trailer for sure. I could use either of them after a good cleaning and sprucing up with some reprolabels.

    But surprisingly despite all the gripes (myself included) about the $50 price, he seems to be selling pretty well at my local Wally. They had a case of 6. When I got mine, they had three left. Today, they had one left, so he's selling.

    I've seen it at two of my local Walmarts, and I just haven't been able to pull the trigger. It's unique, it's classic, and it's incredibly overpriced. Had some new accessories been thrown in, or something to add more value, I wouldn't hesitate. I'm ok with it not having the trailer, but not "$50 for the cab" level ok with it. I've already got the New Year 2002 reissue, the Takara bookstyle reissue, the TRU reissue, and the 25th anniversary reissue, so clearly I'm a sucker for the figure, but the price point is deadly on this thing. He's selling in my area, and I have no doubt he'll sell well enough, but at the price, it's not worth it for me. I definitely want to support the reissue line - I LOVE the vintage style packaging - but even that has limits.

    actually they were sold both ways, just the cab and the cab and tractor. I do remember that much of seeing them in the stores.

    Nope, definitely not for the Hasbro release. Only ever with the trailer.

    perhaps, 35 years ago was a while back, my 9 year old mind back then might have seen things differently.

    I don't see a listing from Prime that DIDN'T hae the trailer and everything that the original G1 Prime came with. There was no "cab only" version until now.

    Well I got lucky getting mine from E Bay for $45.00 but the shipping was $9.99 something like that so I paid $55.85 instead of what it's going for now... I'm also thinking of getting some KO's while I still can since Hasbro is cracking down on it big time.... Mainly to get some trailers to use...
