    Yep. Those.

You don't have to rotate and slide them around to the backs of the arms. Keep them in their position on the sides, they lock in too.

Yeah I’ve tried that but you can barely see his hands that way. Maybe I’ll try it again when I get home but it’s not super accurate to the movie either. The weight of the cannons is a problem too so I’ve mostly been leaving them off. The way they attach is also part of my problem with the arms. They’re supposed to be much closer to the actual arms and look more integrated, but instead they just stick on the sides of the flat panels and look out of place.

So it definitely seems that the c-clip that holds the chest assembly in place has a wonky bug design to it. This is my second figure, and the right side (Ironhide's left) failed after the first day of owning him, again.

They come out simply with a few twist of a screwdriver, and I reinstalled it the other direction. Seemed to help a bit.

The solution has never been more simple.....PLEASE some 3rd party or 3D printer owner, read this post and create a new pair of c-clips for this figure that give it more bite.

    I have my money ready.

So if you flatten out those double hinges under the hood halves, and give a bit of rotation, you can get this look, which doesn't rely on any friction or locking.
I think he looks pretty good still.

    Just transformed mine last night.

I’m actually extremely irritated with this toy, but I should be honest with myself and admit that part of me simply hates all of the Bay designs.

I can still appreciate a good TF toy, and I enjoy screen accurate character representations as well.

Now that my ranting and negativity is out of the way I can say that the feet were really cool to transform. While watching Peugh’s video review I remember thinking “Where’s the bed of the truck?”, and when the foot flipped over my eyebrows raised. That’s not common with toys these days. Only the recent G1 and BW MPs can do that so I was pretty happy to experience it with an MPM.

Of all the Bay designs I think Ironhide has always been the most interesting for me. I like how the truck hood and bumper separate and collapse. It’s a neat stylistic choice, and luckily the toy replicates that perfectly.

Now then; why the shit do his arms come out of his back? Gods that’s dumb. Perma “come at me bro!!!”

Can it be seen in the video? Or is it simply implied?

The video shows the new stability. There is also a picture in the link. The picture was mirrored in the movieverse appreciation thread earlier.

THIS. i get tempted over and over again to pick another copy up after i returned my first bum copy, but this design choice is the main reason why i can’t get myself to do it. i can future the shit out of the chest pieces, but those shoulder placements leave a lot to be desired.

I could get it if it were completely pulled out of hastak’s ass, but it’s screen accurate. I’m glad they went for the screen accurate approach and didn’t compromise it just to have conventional human shoulders.

Yes I agree with you strongly. I’m pleased for the accuracy. But I’m just upset that the initial design was conceived as such.

That’s understandable. The shoulders are an awkward design choice and sit in the weird valley of being so close to human but also alien so it just makes it seem a bit weirder to me.

i thought the actual placement was compared by others here earlier in the thread using the prime1 statue and his shoulders are actually placed under the wheelwell, behind the front wheels. the prime1 statue and cgi render didn’t have the gray panel like the mpm mold where the shoulders are attached to, rendering it further back than it actually is.

Got my second copy, and much better! Phew, I'm relieved. Still not perfect, but tabs in better than my first (no more wonky crooked windshield, but still slight gaps in the hood). Diecast looks better, too. I'm keeping it and returning the other. For those toying with the idea, give it a shot! It is a gamble, but you either get another bad copy, or there's a 50% chance you get a better one.

    Hasbro or Takara?

I've owned 2 different Takara ones so far, and they have only shared in a few of the QC woes.

Loose hood assemble (fixed with Future)
Arm panels not pegging (they do hold however)

All the tabbing and other floppy stuff was non existent on both of mine.

Maybe cut that 50/50 down more in your favor and go with a Takara one. Got mine at HobbyLink Japan.
