What are the stress points/ stress marks on this figure and how do they happen? Also where are they? Does anyone have pictures?
Ah good ol GMGMCMC Topkick They're both bad, but what're you gonna do at this point? I hate when people immediately go to the "can't wait for the KO" or "Gonna wait for the OSKO" comments, but every time I have a harder time blaming them for thinking that way. KOs are a bummer all around, but if they take something from non-functional to functional then I have to agree that they are necessary. I mean, floppy arm panels and shoulders that don't peg in are things that you'd expect a KO to have, not the other way around.
Welcome home "replacement Takara Ironhide." "What is this liquid you are trying to cover me in?" (answer: Future) So, nothing newsworthy to report. Same ole' QC bugs in all the same places. Nothing that Future can't help. I WILL say however, keeping the arm panels rotated upwards, instead of under his forearms is the way to go. They even have a lock tab to keep them there. THAT was the real frustration part for me; transformation was never an issue. Emgo shows the correct way to tab the hood. Those tabs aren't meant to be pushed directly onto each other, hence the breaking. They alternate hooking under each other. Anyway, happy to have him home.....time to fiddle. Updated w/alt photos:
Ebay has some KO MPM6 listed, not sure if those are "better"? I searched Weibo and saw a couple posts where people showing how to identify KO MPM-6 from official version. In the comments, people joked that this allow buyers to NOT accidentally buy the official version. Seems to suggest at least some KO versions are better...
From everything I've read they are the same quality and build as the official, for better and for worse.
After playing around with this guy some more, I really, REALLY hope people give it a chance....once you figure out how it all works, it really does work. All the connecting points and tabs that were troublesome really came down to user error. It snaps together like a brick now. That said, I did need to tighten up the entire hood assembly, and I don't rotate the arm panels; I leave them on the sides in bot mode. But this figure is noooooowhere near the dud that the last 3/4 of this thread makes it out to be. (note: I have the Takara version)
Maybe I'll open mine this weekend then. Everyone's been talking as if the best thing to do is wait for a revised KO
I hope you're right. I spend 160 usd on the TT version. I'll hate to end up with a figure that works Exactly the same as a KO, but for 3x the money
It sounds to me like the KO is going to wind up being a less expensive version of the exact same thing. For me personally, if that's the case, I go official all day long. (I do regardless) As for opening it up and your expectations.....be prepared to be frustrated. For a bit actually. lol I only now have my head wrapped around it because I've had a first go around with this figure back in early December, but then it broke and had to wait for my replacement, so I had a good idea how it all worked and what needed fixing again. The front end assembly ALL comes down to, "are the double hinges and rivet positioned correctly? A mm off, and the hood won't snap and sit flush. The double hinges need to be absolutely and 100% vertical. Once that is the case, then you can drop the middle portion of the hood in between them and snap the ends together. Keep in mind, the hood tab and the middle section tabs go over and under. They don't all snap in the same way, that's why people are breaking them. IF your hinges are still not aligned, pulling open the brake pad parts (like in bot mode) and pulling the wheels out of the way will allow enough room for your fingers to get in there and help move those hinges around so they sit vertical. My best advice.
They’re also making bold assumptions that there will even be an improved KO. The figure is completely fine except for the chest not tabbing in. We don’t even need a KO for that, just a simple add-on kit with a locking mechanism of some sort would be more than enough to make the figure perfect. Actually, I’d prefer that over an entire KO. If DNA design or someone else can figure out a solution to the chest, they’ll still make great money
The sucky arms are a much bigger concern to me. Future ensured that the chest on mine works reasonably fine, but the arms are sucky for several reasons, not just the tabs not working.
Have you tried to alternate transformation where you keep the panels on the sides? Looks pretty darn good and solves the floppy panel issue 100%.
Yeah, I don’t mind the arm panels that much. They’re slightly annoying but not as much as the chest, and the alternate transformation for them works. Personally, I actually want the chest to have the ability to lock. Having the option to untab the pieces for more articulation is fine, but I’d feel more content having the option to keep them solidly in place. An add-on kit shouldn’t be too complex for most third parties nowadays
