...sure, most beast wars figures were shellformers, but beast wars neo designs took shellforming to a whole 'nother level: there's a reason why their animal forms look so stunning by comparison to earlier beast wars figures, and it's the same reason takara dropped shellforming from their engineering reportoir forever after...

...seriously tortuous transformations across the line; they're both a joy and a curse to experience and the market backlash to beast wars neo figures is directly responsible for car robots reintroducing traditional vehicular transformations to the franchise...

 

It is cool they are putting him in the original type packaging.  I am more interested in getting the blue version.  I have the universe version and the verses set.  I think the blue one will look great displayed.  

 

Aside from green Unicron who is - what? An energy avatar made out of Minicons? I’ve never seen Armada.

But overall you're right, chances are slim, the recent Encore-line seems to be more of an Autobot-leader kinda thing. Too bad 'cause some Decepticon toys from these older lines are fantastic.

I have Big Black Convoy and his original mold which were made almost 19 years ago. Thats nuts the toys lasted so long and can hold up and be as minty as the day they were first made. This new version while only a recolor and remolded into the Anime accurate asthetic will be a great addition to any BW Neo collector's arsenal.

 

...my minty longrack and saberback both suffered latent fractures sitting in their original packaging for two decades; not literal GPS but similar material failure when lightly touched upon being retrieved from storage...

 

Interesting...do tell. Im really curious to know how this happened. Sure some plastic gets brittle over time. Anybody whose Big Convoy has the same issues?

 

...on longrack, the shaft of his extendable claw cleaved cleanly; upon first deployment after retrieval from storage, the claw and 2/3 of its shaft shot across the room, followed by the spring and the back third of the shaft belching out of his arm onto the tabletop at his feet...

...for saberback, two of his spine clips fractured through right at their base; couldn't tell anything was wrong until i touched them and they fell loose, still connected by a tissue-thin membrane at the outer surface of the fractured plastic...

 

Very high or very low temps in storage or severe fluctuations?

I remember reading something on these boards about toys in ziplock bags for years that melted from gases that emanated from the plastic

 

I remember in the thread about HFTD Blugeon’s treads melting his plastic, someone mentioned a similar phenomenon happening to toys left in their original packaging too long. Like maybe the plastic trays they sitting in are releasing something that’s weakening certain parts of the figure.

About Big Convoy though, did anyone else order from Amazon Japan and get an email from them about his release being delayed a week or two into early February?

 

Yeah, I preordered from them and got that email

 

...mixture of conditioned and unconditioned indoor storage, figure maybe thirty and one hundred degree extremes, never stored in an attic or similar hothouse conditions...nothing melted, and these are the only figures from my collection i've seen fail so far: thankfully my G1 figures appear to have escaped GPS, but i haven't re-opened transmetal megatron yet...

...my original red transmetal rattrap's chrome peeled like sunburn while in storage, but my wal-mart blue rattrap is in great shape, as do all my other transmetals appear to be...all my other beast wars neo figures besides longrack and saberback are in fine condition, too: only those two appear to have deteriorated in storage, and they still look fantastic when i set the loose pieces back into place...

...i missed big convoy the first time around, and lost an auction for ultra mammoth last year, so i'm somewhat tempted by this reissue...

Yes it's been on pre-order for quite some time. Blue Big Convoy is a Tak/Tom Mall exclusive since it's a LG-EX release. Some e-tailers like Amazon Japan won't have this. Have mine pre-ordered at BBTS. I have the encore one pre-ordered through Amazon Japan.

 

Ahh, I see. Okay then. I'll see if I could get him from my local toy sellers.
