Its not extortion and its NOT a subsidy to ask for lower taxes, businesses move around all the time. There may be other logistical reasons for moving out that area, they do a lot of product testing and may be moving to an area with a more composite audience to test products ie-kids.

 

My State REALLY needs to get it's shit together. We cannot afford to lose Hasbro because then I'm sure other companies will also follow them. It'll probably make us the worst state to do business in. Ugh...

Really shows that Hasbro is showing self-awareness of their own footprint too and doesn't want to abandon what's been their home either.

But do have to admit, these are likely discussions still long in the making. But I'm really looking forward to what shape they eventually take.

 

Actually, if you subscribe to the libertarian view that any tax is an act of violence perpetrated by the state, then a company asking for lower taxes for itself alone violates the concept of equal protection under the law promised by the Constitution.

And you might want to look up the definition of extortion while you're at it:
"the practice of obtaining something, especially money, through force or threats"

Well, gee, obtaining a tax break by threatening to move sure seem to fit the bill.

You want Hasbro, the company that purchased Kenner, sucked up all their toy deals, used their creativity to repower Hasbro's own brands, and then laid waste to the Cincinnati campus and Kenner employees to come back to Cincinnati? For what, to do it all over again?

Hasbro was in Cincinnati. They said fuck you.

They'd do it to Pawtucket if they could save once cent. Promise. The problem just exacerbates when public money is used to try to help a corporation do the right thing. Disappointing to see this happening but it is happening all over the United States.

 

This is the same line of thinking that supports "speech is violence."

 

Maybe i'm just tired, but how does that look that way? Am I missing something?

 

Stretching the definitions of words and ideas with clear meanings to fit a political purpose.

 

I haven't decided if the complaint was directed at libertarian rationalization or my co-opting of it. The literal definition of extortion is what it is in any case.
