Quite honestly, if a new cartoon movie were done, with this guy's art style in that Sunbow original look, I would be in heaven.. I would love to see a tie-in between G-1 Optimus Prime and TF Victory in a movie, which picks up after the last G1 story.. or make it set after the return of Optimus Prime.. Hasbro could release it to DVD and import and sell Shockwave as the main antagonist, in the aftermath of the War on Cybertron, it is Prime versus the cunning and now new leader of the Decepticons, Shockwave! That would bring back both Marvel G1 comics nostalgia and Dreamwave which was parodied quite a bit in later comics. So that would be a cool way Hasbro could get mileage out of both MPs.. But then again we aren't in a creative era anymore given what we got from Machinima.. Give me an anime on par with the G1 86 Movie, and I will be happy, especially if the designs looks a lot like the MP as seen in this book image.Or Hell, just give us a good comic that goes with this art style, I'll settle for that even! Love this style. Evokes that sunbow cartoon feel, but better.

That was also contracts in the 80s. Whether a show was a union show or not is irrelevant - all shows that were broadcast, then and now, were/are required to have SAG or AFTRA talent. Voice actors generally did buyouts, meaning they were not entitled to any residuals, but ALL licenses which include performances, royalty entitled or not, require written consent from the performers.

This isn’t speculation - I have worked in movie/tv licensing for 19 years and have actually licensed clips of Sunbow shows, including Transformers and GI Joe.

However, the owner of the material may use it however they like without any further permissions, as it is their material - so since Hasbro acquired the material several years ago, they can use it in their toys without permission. Takara Tomy cannot. They would be required to license it.

So this current discussion about voice actors and contracts is very interesting. I would never have guessed there was such an intricate requirement of permission required.

 

Wut? The union is not compulsory in all production. There are plenty of non union productions and non union performers.

I get what you are saying about Hasbro vs TT - but I've yet to see anything conclusive on the sunbow/marvel productions in terms of under what scheme they were produced. I mean, I'm pretty sure if Sunbow was a closed shop production... the whole contracting the animation out overseas would not have been very well received.

Actually, it was a weird transaction. On my mobile phone, the import charges showed up. But in my laptop, they were never mentioned and the price was actually a lil cheaper. I had to pay $18 for shipping, but my MP-44 preorder and MP-20+ preorder was less than $400 total. I wasn’t gonna question that. Hopefully it’ll all work out.
