Something to point out here as well is that Star Saber's animation model in Victory was refined by Kunio Okawara, a prolific Japanese mechanical designer. Not only is Okawara-san the designer of the original RX-78-2 Gundam but countless other Gundam designs as well, including the Strike Freedom that you posted here. :D

Relevant to this site, Okawara-san also designed many of the mecha featured in Takara's long-running Brave franchise, which carried the torch as it were while Transformers went on a long hiatus in Japan in the 90's.

Can you please explain what the similarities with the Strike Freedom are? The only thing I could find after some analyzing that the general legs/torso ratio is more in line with a Gundam (i.e. longer legs, shorter torso) compared to a transformer. On the other hand the the torso of Star Saber is not nearly as lean as a Gundam and Gundams are usually more leggy.

The arms maybe since Flame Toys didn't carry over the blocky forearms of the G1 design. On the other hand the forearm shield emitters on the Strike freedom are not a general design on a Gundam which have mostly slender and athletic proportions. I guess I could see the lower abdomen as similar since the blue and white parts there are pretty similar looking to a Gundam.

In general a Gundam has more athletic, slender and human proportions whereas I feel that Flame Toys Star Saber looks more like a bruiser robot.

I don't want to be confrontational rather sparking a discussion why people always bring up the Gundam comparison. Yes there are some influence which come manly from the involved designer and the his history in mecha design but to me Star Saber has much more in common with other Autobot leaders like Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus.

Star Saber here is more like a burlier Zeta than he is a Strike Freedom.

I was saying that he looks less like a Gundam like people keep saying, but to people who only see Gundam from far away I can kind of work where they get the comparison such as back kibble that is hard to tell if it goes on a plane or a pair of angel wings.

What is the problem with gundams? They look cool, I don’t see why a comparison with them should be received as something negative.

No problem whatsoever, except for those few odd fans who have this exceedingly narrow opinion of what Transformers "should" look like.

I apologize. I must have misread your post. However I really would like dig deeper why Gundam always pop up as a comparison where I don’t see many similarities.

I also think they look cool but if you take a closer look Star Saber looks more like the previous Autobot leaders than a Gundam imho.

According to Flame Toys' Twitter, preorders will open mid next week. They will also be revealing a gimmick related to Star Saber's "arsenal".

And here we are! As the "wings" on the swords open up, metallic pieces slide under the clear parts to indicate a "powered up" state.

So he comes with three swords? And scabbards that transform into guns? Nice.
