Found a site that's selling Booster Boxes at $89.00/box. Transformers TCG Booster Box. I've never heard of them before, nor know of anyone that has. But at that price and PayPal's buyer's protection backing me up (as well as that site's buyer protection program), I decided to take the plunge.

You are lucky then. Most LGS around here are asking $102-$119 for a box of boosters.

So, I gave in and bought a box of boosters and the metroplex pack off ebay for about $90. I almost picked up the starter game as well, but I was unsure if it is necessary accept for the tokens that mark the points. I have never been into trading card games, but I wanted to get enough to play with my family.

Any recommendations on where to start?

    Thanks.

You can use dice, coins, or whatever to track damage. Of the characters in the starter, one's pretty alright (Bumblebee), one basically fits a niche almost better than any other cheap car so far (Red Alert), one's a cheap, if lackluster Optimus, and Ironhide is basically useless. However you do get a handful of staple cards (Flamethrower, Rapid Conversion, Ramming Speed, Leap Into Battle, GRENADE LAUNCHER), so it's not an awful buy. One of the best things about this game so far is that a lot of the staple battle cards (ones that are often universally useful across many different decks) are commons, including the aforementioned Flamethrower, Rapid Conversion, and Leap Into Battle, so getting a booster box will give you plenty of your Force Fields, Brainstorms, Incoming Transmissions, and other very useful cards like that.

Thanks for all the info. Can't wait to dig in! If nothing else, I love the art. I like the coin method you mentioned.

Not sure the ages of your kiddos, but we modified the directions from the Optimus set for 2-players. It is an easier version of the game, but we love it. Inferno is OP in this mode though.

Is there gonna be an artbook for these cards? Because there should be an artbook for these cards.

Jets really need more options, so I'm happy about Windblade.

I just opened my box of boosters. These things are so beautiful! I don't know if I should play with them before getting them sleeved.

Apparently 3 rares per box is typical. Here is my breakdown. I think I will sell the rares and the mutiples unless you guys make any recommendations otherwise. The rares almost pay for the whole box.

    Rare

    Chromia // Special Ops
    Grimlock // Dinobot Leader
    Sunstorm // Fusion Flyer

    Uncommon

    Chop Shop // Sneaky Insecticon
    Demolisher // Devoted Decepticon X2
    Dinobot Sludge // Mighty Stomper
    Inferno // Fearless Firefighter
    Kickback // Cunning Insecticon
    Ransack // Insecticon Commando
    Skywarp // Sneaky Prankster
    Starscream // Air Commander
    Wheeljack // Weapons Inventor

    Common

    Bombshell // Insecticon Mind-Controller x3
    Bumblebee // Courageous Scout
    Dinobot Slug // Hot-Headed Warrior
Dinobot Swoop // Fearsome Flyer X2
    Flamewar // Veteran Decepticon X2
    Megatron // Decepticon Leader
Optimus Prime // Freedom Fighter X2
    Ramjet // Sky Smasher
    Sergeant Kup // Veteran Sergeant
    Starscream // Scheming Second-in-Command x2

You got Grimlock, nice! He’s probably the most sought after Rare. You just need to find Snarl for the good Dinobot deck and he’s pretty easy to grab.
