Nevermore has a very valid point with the codenames yes I thought at one time they meant something for a particular character.

The fact there are similarities mean nothing now yes your point about certain characters and codenames sort of makes sense but still is incorrect.

    Look at past toylines

explain how Toys for both Tf4 and Tf5 had codenames for characters that made sense.

I mean logically how do Rocky character's make since for Age of extinction ? and likewise with Planetary names for the last knight.

    The codenames dont mean anything

Like I said, inter-office stuff. Planetary for TLK is because of figures of myth. Compare the names to that instead of planets(where planets got their names). But then planets also brings up unicron and Primus/cybertron(main thing of TLK's story as well as Legends of yesteryear in how it used some Arthurian stuff).

No clue what AOE's were. I'd have to see them to know how they relate or if they do. But like I said, this is for inter-office stuff to avoid spoilers and leaks and have some inter-office off the wall fun. Fun for fans to guess, but nothing to take too seriously.

The point your still missing is that codenamed characters are yes codenamed to prevent spoilers but thats the end of it And that Australian race horse names in no way relate to Bumblebee movie characters.

REALLY hope Ram is Sideswipe b/c 60/70ss 'Vette.

Also because he's one of the only guys who does NOT need a new alt-mode like Hot Rod did

Not missing the point. Know your point is wrong. Blatantly so, because you're missing it and not reading what was said. That's why you're trying to argue it, and Nevermore isn't.

Which ones were those? I'd need direct names to point out if or how they relate. Though in some instances can be an inside joke. Sometimes it could also be because people are assuming it's a reference to one thing, when it's a reference to something else too. (Edit, even the Race horses have a deeper meaning internally. Though are mostly a joke for randomnesses sake to screw around. "Thoroughbreds" but you'd also have to read up more on those horses to get it too.)

But that's the thing, many do relate. But not in obvious ways. You don't want to pick a codename that you have to keep explaining over and over again, so it has to be something that's understood inter-office. Sometimes that even means an in-joke of the office. It's the same with naming files, sometimes you want a file name that's obvious because it doesn't matter, but if you need a file name to avoid someone seeing the obvious, you pick something that's obvious to you or the development team only as "in-the-circle" references.

So the codenames do relate, but not in ways many of the fans often know or understand until later, if at all because the fans aren't "in-the-circle". Or sometimes they're completely randomly references to different media, like the Seinfeld random codenames used for something else. Which was a "sitcom about nothing," though I don't remember what toyline they were codenames for.

*Edit* Cyberverse was Seinfeld codenames. Which makes sense because of the sitcom nature and how Cyberverse is essentially the same. And even so, some of the names line up, some obvious some obscure. Like Newman as megatron when Newman was the main point of friendly antagonism in Seinfeld and Kramer(shockwave) was friends with him. And some are name obvious like "peterman" to reference "peterbilt" for Optimus. Etc. *End edit.*

If by Rocky, you mean the Stallone movies. That's kind of obvious from what AOE was about how the autobots were on the ropes and needed to regroup and get their mojo back. Essentially everything "eye of the tiger" famous scene is about in getting back in shape. Which goes back to the entire transition of Evasion Mode Prime and falling apart to him getting his new form. That one's thematic but without knowing directly who was who, no clue how it relates on a character by character basis, and was likely chosen for theme because of timing of other factors and basic broad strokes they knew on content. Without knowing the full lineup though, does sound an awful lot like a codename theme to set up the concept of Galvatron/Lockdown as the next heavy weights to take on after coming out of retirement and getting back in shape. Which also relates to the Grimlock/Prime fight, as the early fight to earn respect then allies to take on the next fighter together. Which then goes to the Prime ending, with him going to space to go after the "creators" as his next fight. Which was a very standing victory in the ring holding the mic calling out your next opponent with that "I'm coming for you!" remark.

Like they did in Real Steel also as a point for Robot Boxers which is also common to Boxing/Wrestling in general as hype moves. So if that's the case, then yeah, that relates too. In a pretty obvious theme way. Same as planets for TLK is obvious if you stop to think about it and the full name origins of each.

So like I said, it's nothing to take too seriously, but the codenames are something to have fun with and guess about. Sometimes those guesses are right, sometimes they aren't. Sometimes it's an obvious relate point, sometimes it's not so obvious. That's the fun in guessing.

Though if Hasbro didn't want fans to have fun with it, they wouldn't use them for 'retail listings' and would keep them as in the office only to maintain singular codenames for all instead of changing them up so often by being forced to through revealing them in retail listings. They'd do the retail listings with a more bland "Character 1, 2, 3" etc boring title for case assortments instead of having so much fun with the listing code names with themes and word plays. So in many ways, they openly are having fun with fans with the code names by letting them be known through retail listings. Same as they pick a new theme per thing per year to start the process all over again. Though to be fair, Bumblebee's movie is more random than previous thematic uses. The person who picked the code names for this one must have been distracted. There isn't much of a theme to them and are more word association and random references though still relate in different ways. Do gotta admit that the Cyberverse Seinfeld one is inspired and they really had fun there. By comparison, the Bumblebee movie ones almost feel like it was by someone that was tired at the time. The effort used and allowing them to be known to the public through the listings alone refutes the claim that they don't want fans to pay attention to the code names or enjoy them though. Otherwise why go through all that effort each year over and over and then let it slip in such an obvious way as retail listings.

*Edit* Literally the front page says "say your impressions" so not sure what's so wrong with guessing, since literally the news article to here implies "Take a guess" or "say what you think".

Though in hindsight, unless we know the codename for it, Power Ram could be that tank Blitzwing we saw before that was a retool of Megatron. You don't get much more of a "Power Ram" than a tank. Though then you'd think he'd be the same codename as before with "Hornet 2".

Still not sure on "Wolf" though. Keep thinking Steel Jaw or Drift for some reason.
Steel jaw because he was a literal wolf in RID, and Drift because he's a samurai and that kind of codename fits to "Lone wolf and cub" which was about a swordsman. Though could fit Crosshairs too (Wolfpack is usually a Marine term iirc, so that'd be crosshairs, military theme, or hound, but Hound doesn't seem like a "Speed series" type character, still possible though because Hound and wolf are similar too). Or someone in the movie we don't know about yet too. Heck could be an exclusive to the toyline "Deadend" but I doubt it. He's not slated for any toys anytime soon outside of maybe Cyberverse much later.

It's energon igniters which is more for the kid appeal audience. So these might be throwaway code names too. Or we could see them pop up in Studio series later. Who knows. So outside of them being movie characters we haven't seen yet, these are my guesses:

Power Ram: Either Blitzwing's tank, Ironhide, or Cliffjumper. Maybe Shockwave since he's been popular lately in toys and wouldn't be too hard to retool from Megatron either. Something with size though seems likely. It is a power series release. Hound could fit here too. Soundwave doesn't seem likely, but he's one that sells so possibly. Octane as a Prime retool would be interesting if they wanted to toss in a random other triple changer to the toy only figures. Though iirc, "Blitzwing Tank" we already know is "Hornet 2" I think. Don't remember.

Wolf: Hound, Drift, Crosshairs, or Steel jaw. Doubt it's Ravage, but he'd fit possibly too. Could be one of the troop decepticons too like the dreadbots or similar.

Wrong or right, it was fun trying to guess.

"Power Ram" stands out though. Something familiar about that one I can't quite place.

Hot Rod was an error on my behalf. His code name is "Cougar".

LMAO! Okay no comment on that one.
Geez, Hasbro got a bit pointed with that one though. xD

Prequel, but feels like a tonal reboot because of his amnesia that happens early on and being set in the past.

That's why Starscream's name was off-limits. But they also want viewers to be able to go into it with a clean slate, and have no preconceived expectations or baggage from the other films too. So it's handled more like a "stand-alone" while also kicking off the 35th G1 anniversary. So it uses a lot of nostalgia.

At one time there was talk of wanting a classic nod twist at the very end, possibly in the credits to say whether it's a reboot or not to have people enjoy the film first before finding out, but I think that idea got cut because they want to approach it more like Star Wars for now. Saving any massive sweeping changes for later. Right now, it's more about getting revitalized interest in the property, and there were also plans to do it as a 3 part bumblebee focus. First part is TLK where he gets his voice back as the setup, then the BB movie as a flashback prequel, to then whatever the next thing ends up being to fully round out bumblebee's story with an epilogue to that later in a follow up. But not sure if that's the fully going to use plan either. And other plans are to cover Optimus Prime more too in his missing backstory areas.

Going forward though, they are going to soften the aesthetic more, but how the transformers look has been a gradual shift based on mental states anyway. To evoke this aspect of prequel, they wanted bumblebee to feel more childlike too, which is why his helmet designs were slightly altered to also mix in some more G1 elements too. A post TLK movie would have an excuse for this too as the tone of the world itself has changed with how the geo-political landscape has shifted, as well as the state of the worlds themselves since it's now become a full era of rebuilding with Decepticons as fugitives and mostly gone, captured, or in hiding with depleted resources. By comparison, think of BB as G1 season 1. Whereas post TLK is Season 3.

But full reboot or not, is a coin flip. You'll have to see the movie first to find out. I honestly couldn't tell you which was fully decided, because there are plans drawn up for either way and I don't know which path they picked, but I do know that there's heavier emphasis on wanting to explore a post-TLK world carrying off the emotional attachments from BB's solo movie.

The thing is, "Reboot" has become a buzzword. How hollywood uses it, compared to how the public hears it are two different things. Hollywood uses it to say "reset" which doesn't always mean full wipe. It only means new energy, new emotions, new direction, and new emphasis. Whereas what the public hears is "fully starting over from scratch and erasing everything that came before."

There were connections between the TLK codenames too; unlike current Bumblebee and SS toys where they just denote different versions of the same character with a number, they used different but related names. New moulds for Optimus Prime were 'Jupiter' but reuses of existing moulds were 'Four Moons'. Similarly new Bumblebee moulds were 'Saturn' and reuses 'Gas Giant', and Hot Rod was 'Saturn's Rings', denoting his role as a sidekick to Bumblebee. There's definitely no hard and fast rules to it, but they've obviously thought about it enough for things like that to be included.

I'd say 'Ram' is the important identifier; 'Power' literally just denotes the size class, as you can see all the other figures in the assortment:

1x TRA MV6 ENERGON IGNITERS POWER HOT ROD
3x TRA MV6 IGNITERS POWER BUMBLEBEE CAMARO
2x TRA MV6 ENERGON IGNITERS POWER SHATTER
2x TRA MV6 ENERGON IGNITERS POWER RAM

Just out of curiosity, how much stuff relating to the toys and the movies themselves do you know from official sources and how much is the result of looking into things and coming to your own conclusions? I'm only asking because you definitely come across as pretty confident and authoritative about these subjects :)  Edit: ignore that last paragraph, you've answered that in another thread.

Power Ram looks like it\'s supposed to be Cliffjumper or Barricade, Wolf is strongly possibly Ravage.

Power Ram is cliffjumper, likely. Usually Ram is used like in a sentence like \"Bull rammed into something\" and cliffjumper has horns, like a bull..
Wolf is likely Ravage. Wolf is an animal and Ravage is based on an animal
