Im gonna take a wild guess based on the description your knowledge of 40K is......questionable.... Probably full of heresy....
I\'ve discussed an idea for a fresh new transformers storyline a few times on here and it\'s actually borrowed quite a bit from Warhammer 40k.
@Vangelus So, in 8th edition 40k, 1 loyalist Primarch has returned, and 2 traitors have done the same. Which of the other loyalist Primarchs would you like to see return to balance things out? (Ferrus Manus, Sanguinius, Vulkan, Rogal Dorn, Lion El Jonson, Leman Russ, Corvus Corax, or Jaghatai Khan?) Should the Xenos factions get a character equal to a Primarch? (Like maybe the Orks get Ghazkull, or the Silent King of the Necrons)
personally i hope for leman russ.....we're rapidly approaching the end and with the eye of terror widening and magnus the red being back in the mix it's only a matter of time. don't forget his last recorded line: “In the end I will return. For the final battle. For the Wolf Time." he went in after magnus the red.....he's coming out for magnus the red.
i think i'd want Jaghatai Khan. he hasn't done anything especially noteworthy in fiction. this would be a good opportunity for him to get some spotlight.
you have a point...admittedly i'm bias...i've been a space wolf player for years FOR RUSS AND THE ALLFATHER!
@Seth Buzzard You're not too far off with your description of the position Beast Era fans have in the fandom right now. When Beast Wars was having its 20th anniversary, in 2016, people were asking Hasbro if they had anything planned for it and Habro's response boiled down to "not really"
Regarding gimmick changes: somewhere around here I have a sketch for a Weirdwolf that turns from wolf mode to muscle car mode, with an optional stand-up wolf mode. Not sure if that counts as changing a gimmick, though. Likewise, I had an idea for a yellow kid appeal character named Sentry who, after Optimus dies, becomes the new leader Sentinel Prime. Also, the leader of the Punch-Counterpunch hive mind should obviously be Octopunch.
Thanks for answering my question @Vangelus and @Seth Buzzard, you both gave some really great suggestions for my old toys. Probably going to sit down with all of those boxes in the coming weeks and see what's what. Thanks again!
I think the obstacle for the fandom at large and the Transformers brand with Unicron trilogy stuff is this: Most people will tell you G1 is the original, so it must be respected (even if bonkers near the end) Beast Wars is when Transformers "came back" and was actually good this time (history sliver in between that is RID goes here. A lot of people respect it but because it's considered a reboot over here, there's not that much demand as reboots are considered a proxy to what they reboot.) The Unicron Trilogy was broadly considered Transformers "done wrong". Then, because it ended at the same time as the movies, Classics, and Animated, it became remembered as a "dark age" of gimmicks and anime that people had to contend with until Transformers got "good" again for the third time, the current era. (Don't believe me? What's been most of the comedic fodder for one of this podcast's hosts?) This is based off my observations as a Transformers fan who grew up with Unicron trilogy toys and discovered the fandom in 2008 (Boy, have I really been listening to this podcast since middle school? Wow!) Well, at least we've moved beyond the argument that we don't "need" to homage anything past 1999 because it's all G1 recycled anyway.
Frenzy being Blue and Rumble being Red is a gimmick change that I can never see Hasbro going through with ...it's just too crazy of a change!
