I don't display my boxes so I don't really care what the box looks like.

 

I hope you are right, and I know purple can be hard to photograph properly so I won't make a final judgment until I see it in person, but I haven't been particularly encouraged by the pictures we have seen. Also outdated deco can work both ways.

Me and you both ... this evil space demon captivated my mind as a 5 yr old in a way my adult self can’t quite fathom ... I’m semi-scared at this point to probe any deeper to uncover the why ...  

 

Finally, box art.
Unfortunately, at least according to the box art, the hands, biceps, face, neck are still grey or white instead of light purple like the toon. If only they could post a pic of the actual figure inside to confirm.

 

At this point they seem so secretive about this guy I wouldn't be surprised if they've invented some kind of special paint that makes it impossible to photograph or film him.

 

Damn...that would've worked great with Dracula Blah blah blah....

 

It's just artwork. Let's see the final figure before we get upset, lol.

Cyclonus was my favorite season 3 Decepticon, so I really want this to be good. But Rouge is reminding me to wait for reviews.

 

I'm not "upset" at this point. Just working on my campaign (which I freely admit I'm not good at) at getting it in the colors I want Cyclonus in assuming this isn't. I will be sure to admit I was wrong if I like the colors in person.

 

I think Rouge was the exception due to how impossible her transformation is, but I too am erring on the side of caution.

 

I dunno, after Koot and Apache I'm thinking Rouge was pretty par for the course for their Season 3 characters. Hell, even Sovereign isn't particularly fun to transform, but his bot mode was so perfect and Galvatron's alt mode so dumb that I guess I'm just more willing to give Sovereign a pass.

Out of the three "problematic" FansToys releases, I'm willing to forgive Kup since he's absolutely perfect in all respects except transformation - once you mod him the latter is mostly fixed (but of course a mod should never be necessary). Arcee is similar - bot and alt mode are both perfect, transformation is fiddly as all get out but IMO that's to be expected. The one thing that concerns me is fragility. If you can look past that she's fantastic.

Apache is the one that seriously hampered my enjoyment. Looks great in bot mode, good in chopper mode and mediocre at best in car mode. Maybe forgiveable due to the triple changer problem. But some parts of the transformation are obnoxious. To the point that I didn't find him fun - maybe I was extra harsh on him because I already had an Open & Play Big Spring and he's the exact opposite. Not up to the same MP standards as FT in bot mode or overall materials/paint/face/quality but a delight to transform. And I LIKE his car mode.

I think recent FT releases definitely point to their efforts all going into bot mode. And alt mode - Apache's limo mode notwithstanding. But at the cost of transformation. So you get a top of the class robot and possibly a great alt mode, but depending on the character this might require a hellish or scary transformation.

So kinda depends on your priorities. It's no secret that some collectors display primarily in robot mode anyway. And I daresay robot mode is the biggest selling point in general. On the other hand if you want something that won't shred your fingers transforming... well luckily we have a pretty competitive 3P MP market these days.
