They did in fact improve the engineering. In addition they provided optional v2 heads.
The YM KOs are what the official Takara versions should have been from the start.

By "engineering" I'm referring more to the transformation, not the quality. I know they improved the actual physical quality.

The transformation is what I'm talking about, particularly for the coneheads. Yes they improved the quality as well.

Goddamn, feels like 95% of what was ‘revealed’ is the same shit we’ve known abt for literal years now at this point ... maybe 3P is at saturation and this is a sad attempt to cling to relevancy, like fansproject or Giga on a meta-scale?

I was just about to type the same thing which translates to nothing new if you're an MP collector!?

I don't think that's it at all. There are plenty more G1 MPs still undone and others like Astrotrain that are overdue for a better rendition.

What seems to actually be the issue is that there have been so many things revealed and announced since 2017, that revealing or announcing anything else would be pointless because it would be so far off from release. It feels more like a slowdown in production to me. Like they've got a roadmap and a pipeline filled but the bottleneck is getting things out the door and shipped to retailers.

If they had been able to get the factories to produce at the rate they did the past couple years instead of how slow it's been since post-CNY this year, I think we'd have seen a whole new set of reveals at TFCon Chicago 2018. But, because they've got so many revealed products that haven't even gotten to a test-shot phase, there's really no point announcing anything else just yet.

Retailers have shared that sentiment, that it's been slower than usual production in the 3P MP line this year, so I think that's the bigger issue, not any sort of "saturation". Saturation is reached when the main MP companies (XTB, FT, Ocular Max, etc) have covered the majority of the G1 cast with products the majority of the collector community consider definitive enough that they wouldn't replace them with a better version. I'd say we're about 50-60% of the way there. We've got a long way to go. Especially at the current sluggish release rate.

Whew, I put the razor blade down ... :)

But srsly, I do acknowledge your point but I still feel like something greater is afoot ... the issues you’ve outlined abt being behind schedule, that’s been happening since I started collecting in earnest c.2014 ... look at FT for example, they’ve never met a silhouette they didn’t love and nary a peep of anything combiner related??? I’m sure someone can queue up that immortal line from @dalianjj assuring us that all combiners would be tackled in “4 yrs” ... lol
