Jesus Christ... 6 minutes in, and I could not stand his obnoxiousness and so-full-of-himself-ness. It was so cringeworthy. His main beef up to this point is that modern mammals (i.e., cheetah, rhino, gorilla) did not exist in the time period when the show was set, that Fuzor alt modes were not real animals (clearly, he did not watch the show, or at least season 2), and that it was such a big coincidence that the guy whose name was Rhinox turned into a rhino.

And I think if I watched some more, I would've heard him say racist shit about those prehistoric humans.

Sweet mashed potatoe jesus! Ok, now the price makes sense.
I remember staring at a computer screen for about an hour contemplating whether or not I should go with the payment plan option- but shipping to the uk would probably cost £100 and then customs would be £200 and I know I’d end up needing to get the Primal to go with it and I really don’t have that kind of money to throw around or anywhere to even display them.
Being a statue makes it slightly easier to accept I’m not going own one because I can still enjoy pictures; if it was a figure which I could pose and play with it’d be a different story.

That severed Dinobot head (such an insult) looks incredible too. If Prime 1 does him next I’m gonna have this dilemma all over again but with ten times the intensity.

I actually kinda hope they don't do any more. I would want them so bad but not have the space (or money) for them. I'd love some smaller 12 inch or less statues of the secondary cast members, but it seems like Prime1 only makes monstrosities that nobody has room for. The box for this thing is like a whole damn closet by itself. I'd need to buy a new house just display these things. Hell, I'd actually be pretty happy if they just made more Hard Hero statues. That Rhinox one cost me $35 and looks great. He's nice and heavy, but a reasonable size. Gimme more of those.

Agree 100%. Just revive the Hard Heroes line. I don’t even mind if they do Rhinox again; just include his chainguns of Doom this time!

    What a f#$kwit.

The only point he proves by trying to compare a social phenomenon like G1 to Beast Wars is that only an idiot would try to compare them in such a fashion.

I really dislike reviewers who have an obnoxious gimmick. Why the Halloween mask? What does it add to his videos?

So, I'm always open to someone's criticisms of what my favorite portion of Transformers is about. The tough part with this video for most, is distinguishing his objectivity and his subjectivity. It wasn't put together in a way where half of the video was objective and the other half was subjective. But like most "conversations" or even discussions in a real life setting they rarely are. Some things he clearly got factually incorrect, not subjective or objective material. Just a few tidbits that favored his stance but wasn't a big deal.

The thing with him calling "random" people to distinguish John Wayne American flag truck father or goofy bastardized monkey man also doesn't do as much for the point he was trying to make with that either. Since everyone he called were either family or close acquaintance. If you had an older or younger brother with a G1 Transformers fascination but you didn't know anything about it, what's the likelihood they'll remember all the times you talked about and showed Optimus Prime in your youth. Equally, everyone (TF fandom related or not) has been exposed to movie trailers and even seeing the Bay films over the past decade to know that red truck robot is Optimus Prime, while Primal hasn't been seen in that fashion for well over twenty years at this point. Arguably he could show off G1 Prime with any incarnation of Prime, Fire Convoy, A/E/C and those people would say the same thing. Red truck robot always = Optimus Prime. It has nothing to do with the longevity of a characterless truck father from the 80s.

HOWEVER. He equally admitted to Beast Wars saving the franchise and the overwhelming good it did too. Ultimately, it boils down to him not willing to accept that it's Transformers, because it comes down to his own personal tastes on vehicles over organic disguises and would rather it be a transforming robots series not connected.

He also talked about what got a lot of people on board for Beast Wars that otherwise might not have been in the 90s. Which was a culmination of a handful of episodes out of the entire 52 run, which I mean yeah. That had some geewunners stepping up to the plate because now it had something to do with their childhood. But negating and not talking about all of the season one character development, the story arcs of season 2 and 3 that didn't revolve around The Agenda or The Nemesis making those seasons so beloved. No one cares about season 2 because of Ravage. Everyone loves it for Code Of Hero (among others).

Bringing me to the final issue I had. He talked about Simon Furman writing the series end. Because Furman was G1 comics guy, that automatically makes his wrapping up Beast Wars a "only G1 guys can do it right" thing was a loose argument at best. At most it's because Simon Furman is a great science fiction writer, and he worked closely on the source material so of course when you're leaving the world as it will be four million years later, who better to use?

Overall it was leaps and bounds over "trukk not monkey" and "but muh childhood" and it's worth a full watch if anything to analyze how "the other side" thinks.

I had no clue it was that damn big!
I'll freak out if they make a Dinobot statue. And I hope they do! In that size it'll go perfect in the shrine!!

I think it's because he's a dude that values privacy. Which makes sense. I don't feel like it's a gimmick but more like making a way to keep his personal life private, while adding a gimmick to what he does. And let's be honest... It beats a Bionicle mascot. (not hating on that dude, either but it's a little too silly for my taste.)

I could understand that, but a much more professional way of hiding your identity would be to just not film yourself, at least, that's my opinion. That mask is silly.

I agree, but he includes skits in his reviews.. which I think is part of the real gimmick. Instead of doing what everyone else is doing .. it makes sense. It's distinguishable. Also he does a bunch of podcasts and things of that sort, so he isn't just limited to toy reviews.

That dude makes videos very hard to watch. His vocal tones, jokes, delivery, and pre-episode Bionicle crap drive me nuts.

To me Jobby the Hong and Bens Collectibles do the best videos. Jobby is funny, edited well and under ten mins. Ben gives you the details and has a certain charm for everything.

So, speaking of high end pieces, what's the most expensive piece of your collection you've ever broken down and spend cold hard cash on? Statues and all. I know guys who regularly buy Hot Toys, and I have been known to get the occasional Sideshow Premium Format Statue.

But I'm kinda proud and ashamed to say the most I ever spent on an item was the 2006 Dawn of Future Past botcon box set. It was $1000 and I had a mild panic attack right after I'd won. but it is MINT. They even still have the rubber ties on them. is it silly that I now want a loose set to play with? :p

Beyond that I spend $800 on the XM Studios Black Cat statue.

just watched the entire clip, the only point I agree with is that the beast forms were out of sync with the time... which I can forgive because kids can't relate to a woolly Rino.

I've always looked at bw as an extension of g1... this dude is an ass clown. Change happens. blaming unicron trilogy on bw is a D move... F-this guy #douche_hammer

I like how people tried to attack the guy personally while he never attacked them once.

He, like anyone who puts their thoughts and opinions out there for others to comment on, be it in a video or posts on a board such as this, open themselves up for response and potentially ridicule; especially when such thoughts and opinions are seemingly lacking in knowledge of the subject matter.

The irony is when someone is upset because they believe the guy don't know enough about the subject to have an opinion and they concluded the guy is an "ass" without knowing much about him.

I didn't call him an ass. I called him a f#$kwit. I base this on the fact he's taken the time to film and edit a 20-minute video on a subject that he clearly doesn't have a thorough understanding of.

If you like him, so be it. Personally, I won't be tuning into any of his other videos.

The difference is nobody here is conducting a video essay on the guy, just posting their thoughts in a short text reply. It's not really ironic. He created a video on a subject that he didn't know everything about, verses people reacting to his video which they've seen the entirety of and are judging him based on a complete sample he put out there. It's not really comparable.
